Would blood work show cancer?
« on: March 08, 2014, 02:42:41 PM »
I have had the same chronic pain for seven years. I have had lots of tests five years ago to prove I didn't have something serious.( I get pain under my left rib and in wraps around to my back shoulder area) well now the cancer fears are creeping back... Maybe they missed it, maybe it was too small.... Etc. I've had upper gi, upper endoscopy, ct scan, x rays.... All normal. Last year I got an abdomenial ultrasound as well. My current dr isn't one to Oder tests. He says its ibs, and very unlikely cancer. He said my blood work would be off somewhere if I had cancer in my body. I just got a physical and he runs all the blood work and its perfect. Is this a good indicator I don't have cancer? I'm certain I have bowel or lung cancer. And for the past ten months I get this strange noise on my left side almost like my stomach griwlung in the wrong place. It feels hollow and it goes in and out with breathing or if I push down on my mid left side. I've never actually had the noise whenu went to dr though. I'm a wreck again. Of course a friend on ***** just posted about her friend that has terminal colon cancer at 30. Ugh... Anyone have a similar experience?

You would be in much worse condition after 7 years and if you had cancer for that long your blood sedimentation rate would be way off.

I have had a pain on my right side where my ribs are off and on for 9 or so years and no problems
have ever been found. Now if I tell my doctor about the pain he says really nothing.

According to my doctor, there are certain blood tests that can be done which look for
tumor markers.

Of course you can do tumor marker test but it is done for specific cancer...in a general blood work like I said only blood sedimentation rate would be off probably.

Like my dr said sodium would be off if you had lung cancer or anemic for various cancers... Do they test for sed rate in routine blood work?

They test in Serbia...sedimentation rate is most likely higher with kidney cancer but I can't see someone having great blood work and symptomatic cancer. Colon cancer, lung cancer are rarely symptomatic in early stages so, by the time you experience symptoms you would be most likely anemic with colon cancer and with lung cancer you would be dead in 7 years, so I would look for different causes.

Don't know anything about bone cancer really. Can't say.
