For those who have had pneumonia...
« on: March 05, 2014, 09:19:57 PM »
How do you know the difference between bronchitis and pneumonia?

Both of my kiddos have ear infections and chest colds and are on antibiotics and I've caught they're chest cold. How do you know if it's pneumonia?

I'm trying to ride this out, because I was just on antibiotics 3 weeks ago for an ear and throat infection, now this. I don't want to overload my system with antibiotics. When do you need to start worrying about a chest cold?

I've got a low grade fever (99-100 range) with chills, cough that sometimes produces yellow mucus, body aches, headache, nasal congestion. My chest mildly hurts when I cough, but it's mainly my throat that hurts when I cough.

Thanks for your help. I know that pneumonia can turn deadly, which is why I'm asking.

Pretty sure you have viral pharyngitis. Antibiotics won't work as it is not a bacterial infection. It lasts 7-10 days. I wouldn't go to the doctor. I just had this and did not go. I still have a cough but it is normal for a cough to last up to a month after

My friend had it. She was very sick for weeks. You sound like you have a cold. Drink lots of fluids, take vitamin c and d and rest.

My husband had pneumonia…he was told that anytime he feels something in his chest that he needs to be seen to get antibiotics started.  This is only for stuff that's in his chest, not a cough caused by drainage.  Hope that helps and makes sense.

This is definitely in my chest - my lungs "rattle" when I cough. Same with my kiddos.

I've had pneumonia twice and bronchitis a few times.
With pneumonia I felt horrible. Completely exhausted. Like I had been hit by a truck. Aches all over.
Along with the normal bronchitis symptoms.
Hope you feel better soon!
