zoloft
« on: March 02, 2014, 12:28:46 AM »
Just started taking zoloft 2 days ago 25 mg, once a day. Have woke up twice tonight with ny heart pounding and terrified.  I know this medication increases anxiety for the first week or so but is this normal?

At times most doctors give people something to take with new medication like this. To take that anxiety edge off. Then once all has settled down they will stop the one they gave you to help you get on the zoloft. It can be normal.

I had a similar experience when I started Zoloft.  My doc gave me Xanax to use as needed for the initial start-up anxiety.  All my start up side effects cleared up within 3 weeks and I have felt great ever since.

I called my doctor to assure myself it was just anxiety and a side effect from the zoloft. He took meoff of it.  Wasn't the response I thought I would get.

That's odd that he would take you off of it.  Are you dealing with a psychiatrist or a general doctor?  You really need to be working with a pdoc for meds management.  Regular doctors don't know anything about the initial start up effects or going - off effects of the ssri's.

It was my primary care doctor. He told me side effects could cause my anxiety to be worse the first couple weeks, thats why I was surprised.  He referred me to a psychiatrist.

i don't take medications, due to my medication phobia. BUT, i have heard of a LOT of people having the same symptoms when first starting this medication. i hope that it gets better for you!

I took it for 4 days and always woke up with terrible anxiety. I know 4 days isn't enough time, but I just was too scared to try it anymore. I have anxiety about taking medication also. Right now I'm on day 7 of Lexapro. I still have bad anxiety and racing thoughts. I do have xanax, but I have never taken it and I am scared to take it  :(
