Going on rounds with med docs can be frustrating . . . .
Who prescribed the meds? A psychiatrist? Family doc? etc.
Sometimes, and I ma not being critical of docs and I am not in the med profession, but sometimes specialists outside of health issues such GAD, etc., focus more on the symptoms than on the triggers. For me, if I don't deal with the triggers then the symptoms persist and often do worsen . . . my suggestion and it is only a suggestion would be:
1. if you have not already seen a specialist in psychiatry, then ask for a referral;
2. if you have seen a specialist in psychiatry and what you have received are meds, then go back and explain your reactions . . . not everyone reacts the same way to meds and also ask for a referral to a counselor / therapist who specializes in techniques to manage and identify your triggers . . . you may have to go through a couple until you get a good match for you ., . . .
3. if there are any community-based support groups, join them to receive support for your process of recovery and it is a process . . . .
4. if symptoms worsen, then consider finding an outpatient clinic that provides more intense therapy . . . .
Your situation is scary and it does not matter if everyone else in the world is convinced that it is in your head, they are not experiencing what you are experiencing . . . .yes, anxiety is a mental health issue, but it is a health issue . . . others may, through ignorance and unintentionally, try to tell you all you have to do is to stop thinking about it and it will go away, but it does not work that way . . . what I am hearing you say is that you need guidance to manage the root causes of your physical symptoms . . . . and that is sometimes more effectively achieved working with a therapist to guide you than with the med profession who is just interested in controlling symptoms . . .now, don't get me wrong, the right meds for the right person at the right time in the process may do wonders to help the person bridge going from unmanageable to manageable . . . but, you have to be your own best advocate because not all meds work with all folks . . .
Please know that we will support you as best we can so come here as often as you would like and let us know how you are doing . . .okay? Take care, kc
