Can scratching a pimple open on the head cause brain damage?
« on: February 28, 2014, 03:33:30 PM »
I was scratching a pimple on the back of my head, then it came open. Now it's bleeding, and hurting. Is it possible that this caused brain damage? Thanks.

What would make you think it would cause brain damage?  Pimples are on the surface of the skin and people pop them every day on purpose.

So THAT explains what my problem is!

(I pick my head all the time, nothing happened yet)  That's not even a possibility!   Your skull is under your skin on your head, not your brain.

Are you going to therapy and/or taking meds? This is a whole new level of irrational thinking.

I am not judging btw, just think that it would be good for you.

Unless when you scratched it, it opened up into an extremely deep laceration that even went through your skull, like straight through the bone, and right to your brain, and then you didn't notice that it happened and you stuck your finger all of the way down the hole, into your skull, and started scratching your brain -- then no. :P

No it is not possible in any way. A pimple is a "closed environment" and the puss is dead cells. The skin is pushing it away from your body and I can assure you that scratching a pimple CAN NOT cause brain damage in ANY WAY. Your fear is irrational but I understand your concern but you have to convince yourself that it can never happen, ever - not even on Dr. House :)
