Itchy patch on one breast - Inflammatory Breast Cancer fears! :(
« on: February 23, 2014, 08:31:41 PM »
I wasn't even that worried about this until this morning.  I figured it was just dry skin or something.  But then I wondered, "Hmm my boob has been itchy for a while... I wonder if anyone else gets this and what it is."  So I googled.  As usual, BIG MISTAKE.  One of the symptoms of inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) is itchiness.

The area that's itchy is on the underside of my right breast.  The skin there is a little raised and a little pink, and there's a tiny open red dot that looks like a bump I scratched open, but otherwise is soft and isn't flaky or anything.  There's nothing else weird about that breast - it's not swollen or warm; no pain, no "orange peel" skin.  But I'm freaking out and worrying myself sick - I literally feel like I'm going to vomit or pass out.  Someone please help me out! :(

I have an itchy right breast too!!  And I did the same thing with googling - uggg!!  It is the right side and it itches off and on all day - probably for weeks/ months. I am stressed out too!  Maybe it is more common than we think.  Anyone else...

Thank you both for responding!  Ugh I'm so completely freaked out.

I really think its dry skin. I get that sometimes
Lara71, when you say you "get that sometimes", do you get the slightly raised skin where it's itchy?  It's just a small area on the underside of my right breast but it's a little pink and raised.  I'm not sure if it's raised because it's irritated from itching it or if it was raised to begin with.

Inflammatory breast cancer spreads very rapidly. This is not what you have.

This has happened to me for the past three or four winters. I freaked out when it first happened as well but it IS just dry skin. I've been moisturizing the area with an organic skin cream and it works like a charm.

Don't worry - just moisturize!

Thanks so much, everyone.  I've put hydrocortisone cream on it the past couple days and am starting to see an improvement now.  If it was inflammatory breast cancer, it would be getting worse quickly right?  Not better?  My rational side says "duh" but my HA side says "but maybe it will get worse again after I stop using the cream."  UGHHHHH.

I had a HUGE scare with IBC last year. I was out off my mind. I went to several doctors over a several week period until I finally ended up at the office of a nationally known specialist in IBC. She's been studying it and treating it for over 20 years. She told me that women with IBC are usually first seen in the ER because it's presentation is so sudden and so rapid that it is traumatic and women rush to the hospital.

So chances are it is just a patch of excema!

i know it is scary, even if it is rare.
just know that IBC doesn't get better with cortizone cream, unfortunately.
