heart skips when standing up
« on: February 23, 2014, 10:02:45 AM »
I haven't found to many other people with this problem.

It doesn't always happen after I stand especially if I stand up slowly. But I'll stand up from sitting and a few seconds after standing I'll get this pause/squeeze feeling. Feels like my heart skipped.I'm terrified about this, I'm getting ti where I don't want to stand up

Please help

Are you drinking enough water?

I find that my heart beat feels "heavy" when I am dehydrated. I am terrible about remembering to drink water so I've tried to consciously make it a top priority.

Have you had the usual tests done yet? (EKG, CBC, etc...)

Yeah water is hard for me ti remember.

I've had 6 ekgs, a 24 hour, normal bp, yearly cbcs, stress test. Only thing I haven't had is an echo and my doc said everything looked so good I really don't need it.

I don't like heart skips either as they trigger my anxiety but have learned through doctors and my own study that these skips are very very common in the heart.  Even though it feels like a skip I learned that it is really a temporary interference in the timing of the heartbeats.  Sensitization really amps up the fear so it feels worse and we tend to think the worst. Sounds like the doctors have checked this out for you and you are ok.  Best wishes

What you are describing sounds like PVC's (premature ventricular contractions) they are nervous in origin (OR can be aggravated by GERD/heartburn) - I've been getting them for about 25 years.  Sometimes they come once or twice a day, sometimes not at all, sometimes every few minutes.  You get them when you stand up, that is because you are focusing on it AT THAT TIME.    They came back for me when I'd go outside and pick up a snow shovel!  I could go to the gym, I could do high impact aerobics, I get nothing at all, but the minute I'd walk outside and touch a snow shovel I'd get it because I'd think, "This is when it always happens!"  OR if I got to a certain point on the path (shoveling) I'd get it!   If you feel your pulse you will feel 2 quick beats, a pause then a hard beat.   Is this what you are feeling? Your heart isn't really skipping, it's just that 2 were close together so your heart takes a little break before the next one.  COMMON, BENIGN condition.

Well, we could just be describing it differently - but anyway, yes, it's in the throat too - sometimes it feels like it tickles your throat and makes you cough a little?  Or sometimes it just feels like fluttering lower down (between chest and throat)

I never get fluttering, it's always a kind if squeeze sensation that is immediately accompanied by the pause feeling.

I get the squeeze in my hollow of the throat, didn't make it feel tickled or cough.

My palps have never followed with what everyone else says

Well, you did have tests and your doctor isn't worried, so you shouldn't be either.  Don't forget, doctors will OVER test for fear of getting a lawsuit thrown at them, so if he's not worried, then you're good.
