Blood in Stools
« on: February 23, 2014, 05:11:41 AM »
Sorry, this is a bit of a gross subject, but this is freaking me out A LOT right now. Just been to toilet (obviously) and when I looked at my stools I noticed they were BLACK and there was some red liquid swirling around them (just a little, but enough to horrify me). I have no idea what this could be other than internal bleeding and I'm really terrified right now. My parents will be out for another 2 hours and I don't know what to do. Please help tell me what to do!

Note: I'm on Augmentin currently, if that could be of relevance.

Was the blood IN the stools? And did you see blood when you wiped? I've had it before where the water turned red from blood and the cause was an Internal heammoroid did you find it difficult to go ? You only need to be concerned if it's in your poo. Book a docs appointment to double check but please relax and don't think of the worst.

Well, I've been to the doc a couple times already this week (tetanus scare), so I don't want them to think I'm just a nutcase. I don't remember it being difficult to go - just normal really. How would I be able to tell if it was actually in the stools or not? And it was a phantom poop, haha (toilet paper clean).

First, lots of things can cause the stool to look dark/black.  Blueberries, red wine, etc., etc.  Tomatoes, red peppers, etc., etc., can also look like blood.
