For those with Gilberts Syndrome and other liver issues
« on: February 20, 2014, 06:02:41 PM »
I have major liver fears at the moment. I had 4 LFTs done in the past 2 years. All enzymes were fine except bilirubin. 3 out of 4 times my bilirubin level was elevated. My doctor suspects Gilberts Syndrome. I also have mildly enlarged fatty liver. And here is the thing: everywhere I read it says that GIlberts syndrome hardly ever causes any symptoms! But here I am with itchy skin, pale stools, pain in liver area and some nausea. I want to be rational but, of course, all I can think of is that something more sinister is going on... The liver enlargment is my biggest worry - it showed up on Ultrasound 2 years ago, even before I was diagnosed with fatty liver... My doctor isn't concerned... says its just Gilberts.
Anybody with Gilberts Syndrome and similar symptoms to mine??

By the way, I am 34, female, non drinker and non smoker, reasonable diet, low BMI, Hep A, B and C negative.

I was diagnosed with Gilberts after having a number of high bilirubin readings.

While I do not have the stool issues, or any pain, I do have very bad itching.

Doctor says it is nothing to worry about, and I have had this issues for about 10 years.

When I am run down, the itching is worse.

If the other liver functions look good in the tests, you should trust your doctors instinct and not worry.

I also have Gilberts since I was a kid...I don't know about symptoms though since between anxiety and worrying about different illness it's hard to tell what is anxiety and what isn't.

I have Gilbert's syndrome and have a multitude of other symptoms. I've had IBS type issues forever, and I have a lot of itching, along with numerous other symptoms. Don't know if they are related to my Gilbert's or not. I assumed the itching I have is from lymphoma, my current insane worry. :/

Thank you all for taking time to reply. I really hope it's just Gilberts or anxiety.
Hope you are all well!

My husband has this. The doctor is not worried.
His doctor is a very thorough person who makes sure that the patient knows about what is going on.
My husband and I do not smoke, Drink or do drugs.
