Reasons why, and reasons why I don't have a brain tumor
« on: February 19, 2014, 05:14:11 PM »
I read in one of my health anxiety books this was a good way to think logically, by making a list of the reasons why you think you have something and then logically why you don't

Reasons why:
Headaches for over a year
Daily, can only think of a few weeks I don't remember any
Pressure headaches, not migraine like

Reasons why not
headaches effect back and temples and are not very intense
No change in intensity over the year
No visual problems
No nasuea or vomiting
No neurological symptoms
Rare
Only 18
Shoulders and Neck seem to be tight a lot too
Easier explanations, allergies TMJ Etc

What do you guys think?

Sounds like a neck problem (chord in neck irritated, a nerve pinched, something like that)

I know this sounds silly but I just took a shower with the sole intention of relaxation. I took a long hot shower and came out feeling a lot better. The neck/throat tightness is nearly gone and I only have a very light pressure in my head. Would this point to benign muscle tension related things other than something terminal?  A tumor symptoms wouldn't greatly reduce with a hot shower would they?

Tumor symptoms definitely wouldn't wane because of a shower. i think a lot of the symptoms of a brain tumor are due to the pressure of the tumor on various areas of the brain, which wouldn't be reduced by taking a shower or relaxation exercises. I've actually had a friend whose mother was diagnosed years ago with breast cancer that eventually spread to her brain, and her brain tumor symptoms were incredibly severe. I think you would have more than infrequent headaches.

I think sun lovers got it.

However It could be food related. I had headaches that wouldn't quit. Docs thought it was sinus but nothing worked. Finally I gave up soy and no more headaches.

The throat tightness and headaches will come even when I'm not super stressed. Neck pain will come when stressed. I have like 5 or 6 family members with a gluten intolerance but I never have too many stomach problems.

You THINK you aren't stressed, but your body is still releasing stress  hormones, in fact when the stress is OVER is when you feel symptoms the worse!

I havee this worry too, maybe I should start this list - its a really good idea. I have a lot of noise in my neck, sounds like a bowl of rice crispies when I move it - is this normal or does this say it is tension?

Great idea

LOL, I just went back and forth with my neck and it's cracking and snapping and everything else!  I guess it's normal!    My husband says his does that too.
