Indigestion is back :( stomach issues driving me nuts!
« on: February 17, 2014, 10:04:50 AM »
Hello everyone.

I am on my 10th day of
Omeprazole since I started having some bloating and indigestion problems two weeks ago. I've been to two doctors who said my tummy felt fine but prescribed me 2 week omeprazole anyway.

I am on day 10 and there is still minimal improvement.

Basically, my symptoms were:
1. Easy fullness of stomach
2. Burping
3. Indigestion pangs after I eat. They only go away after I eat something and then they come back.
4. Not being able to feel genuine hunger (no rumbling)

What I do not have:
1. Acid reflux
2. Heartburn
3. Irregular bowel movements
4. Weight loss (i gained weight)
5. Tummy pain (just the indigestion discomfort)

Anyway, i started eating really slow and it seems to have helped me. Since last night, my burping has almost subsided. Bloating has eased up a little but the hunger pangs/indigestion feeling has somehow increased :(

I'm almost out of my 2 week omeprazole and it is driving me crazy. Funny thing though is that I dont get to feel the symptoms in full blast when I am out with family and friends.

I had this before amd my gastro gave me omeprazole and I was a-okay after a week. Now the meds do not seem to working unlike before. I am scared of the big C.

Anybody, please?

What exactly are you eating, how much, and when?

Hi clipper, starting January, i wanted to gain weight but i did so the wrong way. I just ate and ate. And that's when thr bloating started.

I ate lots of fastfood junk as well. Like KFC. Sigh :(

Theres your answer.. All eating too much of the wrong foods. Diversify your diet with more natural foods, and drink water. Itll take time, but eventually your stomach will settle.

Sure have. Foods with a lot of fat, grease, preservatives, etc will cause numerous health issues beyond your stomach. Your stomach is the first to scream when you're over doing it. Start slow... A good first step is to cut out or reduce carbonated drinks. Try drinking just two, or one a day, whatever you can handle... And proceed from there. The key is progress, no matter what.

Not only will your stomach get better, but your whole body will improve. Youll love the results in the mirror. Just don't change too much at once. The nunber one reason diets fail is because people tend to stop all the bad eating/drinking at once and get frustrated bc the results aren't immedaitely obvious.

Question for you:   When you burp, are you burping food into your throat?  If you answer yes I have your answer.

Hello sunlover,

Generally yes. I think that has always been the case even when I didn't have the GI issues.

When I burp food to my throat, I mean I can taste the food on my throat. :(

Back in 2002 I had some stomach issues, lots of heartburn which meant excess acid... so I was given Prevacid which is like what you are taking, it's a PPI (proton pump inhibitor - stops the stomach from making excess acid).  After about a month I started getting severe indigestion, burping and burping food into my throat, there was constant air just rising into my throat and when I'd burp it would be solid.    I then realized that I didn't NEED that Prevacid anymore because it's ACID that aids in the digestion of your food, if you don't have enough you WILL get indigestion because your food is digesting very, very slowly.  So I stopped the Prevacid and in a few days or a week or so I was fine.  If you were PRESCRIBED this, I'd talk to your doctor about what I said, it COULD be your issue.  (since I don't know your medical history you can't go by me, but it's worth a chat with the doc)

Hi sunlover.

Wow I never thought of it that way. I am not sure if mine is a lack of acid due to the meds but i will try to mention this to the doctors tomorrow. Thanks for your input.

I am really anxious now :(

Why would you be anxious over that?  That's a good thing, if it's that, you stop the medication and you are good again.  If it's NOT that, then you get medication that is FOR indigestion, not a PPI and you are good again.  It's a win-win situation.
(I forgot what the other medication is called, my dad takes it)

Hi sunlover,

Sorry for the late reply. I just came back from a different doctor. I've seen a total of 3 doctors now because of this and none of them seem to be really concerned.

I was told that I could extend the omeprazole for another 2 weeks since the standard dose of PPIs is actually a month.

I mentioned to her about the lack of acid, but she said that with the lack of other symptoms and the fact that I was responding to the meds, it might not be likely at this point.

I was told that it could be the food that I am taking -- the quality and quantity. I am really trying to eat healthier now. But I am still frustrated at how slow results can be.

I think I feel better as compared to the past 2 weeks, but I am still a bit anxious at how all of my calmness will just fall apart soon. :(

For some reason the stomach takes a long time to "heal"  I don't know why that is.  But hang in there, if it's improving you are on your way.
