WHAT IS THIS?!?!
« on: February 16, 2014, 04:37:39 AM »
For the past week now I have had the CONSTANT urge to clear my throat, no matter how many times I clear it, it won't go away.
It feels like I have phelgm stuck in the back of my throat, and no matter how much I cough, nothing at all comes up.
My chest feels really tight, my throat feels like there is loads to cough up, my chest is burning ....

I haven't had a cold or anything, so it can't be a cold, and I am on 20mg citalopram to calm my anxiety down so I doubt it's anxiety either..

It won't go away and it's so bad :(
Please help?

I quite often have 'colds' that result in nothing but a slight tickly throat that I clear a lot. This is due to a very mild infection in the sinuses that causes a slight drip down the throat. Not enough to have typical cold symptoms, but enough to cause annoyance. It could be you're fighting a very mild infection? Typical ones last about 2 weeks I think.

Could be a chest infection or tonsil infection, if you need reassurance, see your doctor  :winking0008:

Yes thinking about it it does, I know some people who suffer from this, it's easily treated with meds that lower the levels of acid in the stomach and sometimes diet changes.

Dairy can cause this as well - try laying off milk and cheese, etc for a couple of days and see how it goes.

Iagree with Patmob because my mother and my sister had this and it was found out that they just had to lay off the dairy for a bit.

Agreed, I get the same feeling right before my reflux acts up.

The probable causes are post-nasal dripping (from a chronic rhinitis or sinusitis), GERD, a mild viral infection....

Do you have a cough? If so, is it productive or dry?

Do you have a stuffed nose, especially at night? Is your throat sore in the mornings but better in the evenings?

Do you have heartburn? Other digestive symptoms?

Do you have a runny nose or swollen glands around your neck?

I am not coughing up anything, in the mornings my nose is a little bit blocked, but then goes away..
don't have any other disgestive symptons at the moment, and no swollen glands, just this horrible clearing throat

Most likely post-nasal drip, from a chronic rhinitis... you should see an ENT specialist, he will recommend you some nose drops and possibly an antibiotic. Often, mucus from the nasal passages drips down the back of the throat and irritates it and also makes you want to clear your throat. My brother had the exact same thing, he went to an ENT doctor and got his problem fixed.
