Direct switch from Lorazepam to Clonazepam
« on: February 14, 2014, 01:53:27 PM »
I've been taking .5mg lorazepam 3x/day for 6 weeks. My doctor decided he wanted me off the lorazepam so he put me on Clonazepam (.25mg every 8 hours). Today was my first day on the Clonazepam, I took one at 11am. I'm not feeling any relief at all, instead heightened anxiety, exhausted, headache, nauseous, and shaky. I was just wondering if this is normal at all? Wasn't sure if its because my body isn't used to the Clonazepam, or maybe I'm experiencing withdrawal from Ativan?  Any advice or input would be appreciated, its really freaking me out.

Ask your doctor to do a slow taper. It can ease the side effects of the transition.

Clonazepam takes a while to get going, so you could be experiencing some withdrawal. Is this the only med you're taking?

Yeah its the only med I'm taking. Only using the Clonazepam for 3 weeks to be able to taper off the Ativan easier.

Given the short time you've been on lorazepam you could probably have tapered off it without too many problems. How will you be treating the anxiety once you're off benzodiazepines?

Hoping to self treat, with cognitive therapy. So tired of taking meds that make me feel out of it, haven't felt normal in months.

My Klonopin doesn't do anything but make me sleepy. Doesn't ease my tension or my Anxiety.

I want to switch to something else. I just got off thep hone with my Psychiatrist... She wouldn't even really listen to me when I was trying to explain. she was busy.

Maybe I just gotta throw it down the hatch and twiddle my thumbs.
