Getting a mole removed, feeling scared.
« on: February 11, 2014, 10:22:43 PM »
Ok so I have this mole/freckle on my neck, it is raised, like a small pimple, and I think I have had it for as long as I can remember.
The other day it was hurting, so I went to the GP and he said it didn't look cancerous, but said their were blood vessels in it which could be from me touching it, knocking it, or it could mean there are changes going on.
So I am getting it removed next Tuesday so it can get tested. I am so scared.
My sister said I just go looking for these things...
Has any one else had a doctor send them to get a mole removed? Does it hurt? How long does it take? Of course I am already thinking I have skin cancer and my life is over :(

I've had two removed.  They will give you a shot to numb the area and then you won't feel anything.  Depending on it's size, you may need stitches.  I had them removed in the morning and went to work right after.  It took about an hour to do both but mine were large.

Pathology can take awhile to come back so don't let that scare you.  Dr's usually know by looking so if he tells it that it's probably nothing, it's very likely nothing.

I second that Youtube comment ^ you have a cool accent.

Best of luck with the removal. the local anesthetic will numb it long enough you probably won't even have to worry about the pain. If they say it might have some tenderness to it I"m sure you could ask for Ultram (Tramadol).

Thanks everyone!
I guess it isn't a mole, it's really small, the size of a pimple and it's on the back of my neck where my hairline is.
It's not really noticeable to anyone else.
And thanks for the youtube channel compliments! I don't mind at all, the more people you can share it with, the better :)

I would rather have a dermatologist remove it. I had a bump removed from my butt cheek (nice!). My Derm said it was nothing just by looking at it but offered to remove it if it made me feel better. They numb it which felt like a bee sting then I didn't feel anything after that. Of course my derm was right, it was nothing! Best of luck!
