To me the thing that's so overwhelming about GAD (generalized anxiety disorder) is that it is so constant.
It can be a 24/7 feeling whether you're at work, or  at play, weekday, weekend, day or night, with friends of colleagues.  So the stress
is unrelenting.  I find that exhausting as it can affect every aspect of one's life.   :sick0002:   B-;  :dazed:

I sense that I've been having a bad episode of seasonal GAD due to the winter darkness.
This morning I fully prepared myself to greet the day, and it seemed to pay off big time.

1.  LIGHTBOX
I got up half an hour early so that I could sit in front of a lightbox.  I put the lightbox over my laptop so that it's easy
for me to get half hour in front of the box/laptop.  This is a very important component for me.

2.  AEROBIC EXERCISE
I did 25 jumping jacks, then 25 running in place.  I repeat that cycle a couple times in the morning.  Never before
have I made exercise such an essential part of my anti-anxiety morning routine, and I feel a difference.  When I got into
work (I'm the first one there) I also did 25 jumping jacks!

3.  CHANTING
I did my buddhist chanting to have a peaceful, enjoyable day.  A day where I felt fully myself and confident/normal.
I am Nichiren Buddhist and I chant "Nam Myoho Renge Kyo."  I chant to bring out my "buddha nature" which is me at
my most enlightened and happiest state.  My affirmation is:  "Bring my buddha nature to work."  I LOVE this slogan.

4.  VITAMIN D3
I've been taking vitamin d3 which helps to offset anxiety triggered by the winter season.

5.  KEEPING A MOOD JOURNAL
I jotted some notes on how I felt during the day.  I find it very helpful to journal my moods so that I can chart my good days and my hard days.
I can track what works and what doesn't.  The triggers for anxiety but also the triggers for relaxation!

"Am having a great morning.  I slept well last night, no insomnia.  I had fun making breakfast:  bacon, eggs, real coffee.  I had no anxiety on the bus
to work. Things seemed very normal and doable.  I was thinking about my goals.  Want to enter my novel in the Amazon contest this Sunday!  I had a nice lunch today at Aubon Pain and had a chicken and avocado sandwich on french bread.  At work I had some minor stresses but mostly things went well. Coming home from work was also enjoyable."

So that's what I do in the morning to pave the way to an enjoyable, relaxing, exciting day.
I definitely will strive to have more days like this till it becomes my natural 24/7 state.      :P   :laugh3:

Thank you for sharing, it's always nice to see someone managing to have a nice day. I'm happy for you and wish you many more days like this.
I never thought about using vitamin 3D, I may just try that.

I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past me I will turn to see fears path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing......Only I will remain

Thanks, Sylvanas.  Even having one or two good days is a great break from GAD.
And it encourages me to hope and believe that I can have some control and impact
over my feelings.

Much luck to you as well.

I found the most perfect book for writing a journal in and just started it last night.  I started out by writing about the beginning of a bad panic attack that I woke up with.  My plan for my journal is to post current events but also to so into the past and maybe try to make sense out of why these attacks are happening.  I've always been high stressed so maybe they're just culminating now!  I take good supplements because I have other health issues besides panic attacks and they've been helping with my other issues such as chronic fatigue, colitis, psoriatic arthritis, psoriasis, and really bad allergies.  My head's been plugged up for months!  Maybe I should dust more and give up my darling kitties, just kidding!  :laugh3:

bluestblue, thanks for your message.  Yes, I think journals are great to learn from our ups and downs.  I started writing journals in high school
and I'm 55 now.  Sometimes I can see patterns of happiness and unhappiness by looking back.

Don't give up your kitties.  I'm sure they're very relaxing.  I grew up with cats.  Maybe someday I'll have a cat again.

Thanks, Xosammy.  I hope that you and everyone here also have anxiety-free days.
They are amazingly wonderful.  We all deserve them.

Okay, this is the day after my amazing one.  Today I felt more tired than anything.
So it wasn't as great a day as yesterday.  Tonight I plan to get to bed earlier.
Last night I got 5 hours.  I'm gonna shoot for 7.

I think getting enough sleep is good to combat anxiety too.  We have to take care of
ourselves in every way we can.

Big hug to everyone.

Congrats on the good day! I myself had a very good one, with only light symptoms of anxiety showing up during church. I had planned to go to the gym tonight, but an evening watching tv turned into a long nap on the couch.  :happy0151:

Glad you had a good day!

And sometimes we do need a long nap.  I think I'm gonna take one right now myself.

Thanks for sharing! I always love ideas on how to combat anxiety. I find exercise is key to controlling my anxiety. I also avoid caffeine and too much sugar.
