Newly diagnosed
« on: February 11, 2014, 04:39:22 PM »
Today my new psychiatrist told me she thought that I might have OC tendencies combined with hypochondria. I've never considered that possibility, I kind of just thought I worried a lot.
Anyway, I'm just happy to be on a path to feeling better.

So, my question is has anyone found any good books or blogs about OCD that were helpful? Anything like that?

Advice really appreciated.

Thanks

This book is an old one, but it was the first to come out about OCD for the lay person.  It was published 1989/1990 and was called The Boy Who Couldn't Stop Washing by Judith Rapport.  Hopefully it's not out of print.  It was my bible when it came out.  I thought you mean after all these years thinking I had a rare condition, it turns out I have a mental illness more common than schizophrenia.  It was ground breaking to me. It is very readable and has several case histories.  The only thing would be that the medicines listed to treat it would be out of date.

Thank you. I'll look for both of those books.
