Severe chest/rib pain, do I need to worry?
« on: February 09, 2014, 08:42:30 AM »
I have anxiety and one of the main problems it causes is having to go to the bathroom frequently.  Which is Usually just because I keep telling myself I have to go, even when I probably don't really have to. And because of that a lot of them time I have to force myself to pee.

Usually that only causes small discomfort. But about a week ago I forced it out and I noticed that I hurt my chest area. It's the area right under my right breast and right next to it. And it hurts pretty bad. I mean, hurts to the touch, hurts when I sneeze, hurts when I breathe deeply and hold it for a few seconds. And because of this it hurts to move that chest area at all.

I am flipping out that I fractured a rib or I have severe damage to my insides. Or that it's my lungs. I've been frequently checking for bruising that would signal internal bleeding. I'm going out of my mind here.

What do you guys think? Is this serious? Or is it just muscle strain?

Hi Electric, the fact that it hurts to touch and sneeze, I am guessing that it is more muscular. :)

I know I am being counter to what a lot of people state but perhaps look into Costochondritis. That could be what the issue is with the rib chest pain.
As previous writer noted it is more likely muscle

It may not be a bad idea to call your physician and describe your symptoms and concerns.

Thanks for the feedback guys.  :happy0151:

As for costochondritis, I have never heard of that before. I looked into it and the symptoms are lot worse than what I have. While I do have discomfort when I press on the area, you have to press it firmly. Not that it hurt so bad I would faint. And it doesn't feel like an elephant is sitting on my chest or heart attack like symptoms. ><

As for contacting a physician I don't have the means to visit one. Which is one of the main things that fuels my hypochondria to begin with. Since I am unable to afford doctor visits I tend to always worry 5,000 times more about things.
