Girlfriend bleeding a lot during cycle (question for women)
« on: February 08, 2014, 03:27:32 PM »
I have officially stopped Googling so can't really look at there what it is and it's weekend so my girlfriend can't call doctor so I wanted to ask here.

My girlfriend started taking contraceptive pills 26 days ago. During this period she also contracted UTI (e.coli) and is now taking her second antibiotic.

She got her period after only 24 days (usually is between 28-31) and she is bleeding more than usual. I guess it's because of hormone changes 'cause of contraceptive pills, but still wanted to ask here, has any of you girls had similar thing happened to them? Or know what could be the cause?

Thanks

P.S. I guess topic name should be bleeding a lot during period not cycle :)

If she just started the pill her cycle is going to change a bit and her bleeding might be heavier or lighter as her body adjusts to the hormones in the pill. It's pretty normal :) if it's still happening after the 3 month adjustment period and she is concerned tell her to see her dr. She may need a high or lower dose of hormone in the pill but she won't know for sure until she has been on it the standard 3 month trial :)

Some periods are just heavy. Don't become alarmed until it goes on for longer then 2 weeks. Then she should see an Obgyn as a period should only last 7-10 days.

Yeah don't fret over it at all! Periods vary from girl to girl, even when they are related. Some periods are heavy or light - and the symptoms that happening during a period are also as varied! I know I get cramps just before - but am fine during the entire cycle; while my sibling gets cramps and headaches the whole time.

I would only worry if she is starting to miss her period, is bleeding for more than a week, or if the symptoms (especially cramps) last longer than the period itself.
