Anxiety affecting one side of body?
« on: February 07, 2014, 10:45:21 AM »
Is it possible for anxiety to only affect one side of your body?

For example, my right leg feels more numb compared to my left all the time. Is that even possible for anxiety to cause that...?

It can move around, do a dance, shake its fanny in your face, jump back in and go somewhere else.  Anxiety is a weird and craz thing.

My pain is usually around whatever I'm anxious about.  right now its my liver (for good reason) so I ached on the right side.  The problem is, even though I have an actual reason for mine to be aching, I don't know if its that or my anxiety.

I actually read research that says it is common for people with HA to pereive symtpoms on one side only (I think it was right). of course, for every rule there are exceptions, and there are lots of people that will feel it all over, but they somehow explained why it is common for it to be perceived on one side.

I don't think it's perceived... I mean I was shaving my legs and the one leg definitely felt more numb in this one area. This is the same leg that felt heavy for a while (started one morning when I woke up), and the same leg where my ankle swelled randomly last year. That ankle also went numb whenever I bent it one night, as well. So I have no idea what is going on... Could all be coincidences that I am just connecting and turning into an issue... I hope.

Perceive="feel, or feel more acutely". People with HA tend to notice more bodily sympotms than those wihtout HA. In addition, it is very common to notice more symtpoms on one side over the other. It does not mean the symtpom is imagined--but it does mean you are amplifying more on one side (since the brain perceives all input, without the brain interpreting and potentially amplifying the senseation, you would not feel anything even if your leg were on fire).

I hope it helps reassure you that it is very common to become concerned about the symtpoms on a single side--and that the symtpoms to not need to be "evenly distributed" for it to be health-anxiety related.
