i'm not sure why, but i'm nervous still.
what if my vet uses a modified live virus, doesn't really know it, and says it's not live?
geez.

the blood disorder i have is chronic neutropenia which makes me more prone to infections/disease, etc  - although it is mild.

i left a message for my dr.however, now, i'm freaking out again. my records from the vet show the vaccines that she has gotten so far(parvo, distemper, etc)were modified live vaccines,  i'm praying that those diseases are canine diseases only and cannot be transmitted to humans, even through biting...because she sure does like to bite me.

i know that in a NORMAL person they cannot be transmitted that way, otherwise everyone with a puppy would have these diseases....but since i have the blood disorder, i wonder if i could get it?

surely this is just a freak out overreaction HA thing, right?
i'm so scared.

ok, so my dr's nurse called back and said as long as it was not a live virus rabies vaccine then it would be fine.what if my vet doesn't know for sure? how can i trust it?

i never wanted a puppy and this is why. i'm miserable. my anxiety is through the roof.
not to mentioned she already got those vaccines that were Modified Live.
my husband says humans can't get distemper or parvo. but i am not believing him.
i'm sitting here crying and freaking out.

help.

Hi again,

You need to breathe and relax. My mom is on a liver transplant list from an auto immune liver disease and she is on immunosupressants and has to be extremely cautious to get any type of infection. Her transplant team of doctors never warned her about her pets. She has both dogs and cats. In fact they always ask us about her pets, knowing that they bring so much joy to her. I am very confident that you will be ok with your dog. If you don't want a dog and you are not able to handle the responsibility of owning a dog, you should not have adopted one. Pets are family and need to be treated responsibly.

I wish you all the best and hope you can find peace with your situation.

You cannot get distemper or parvo...it is impossible, no matter what blood disorders you have.  The number of diseases that can cross species lines in very small.  I have handled horses that had ehv (equine herpes virus) which manifests in horses with flu-like symptoms, that does not mean I was ever at risk for contracting herpes!  You need to try to calm down.  I know this is hard but working yourself into a tizzy will not help.  Remember that these vaccines go into your dog's muscle, beneath the skin.  There is nothing on the surface that you could come into contact with.  Unless you are a vampire and drink the dog's blood (ew! and lol) you will never come into any contact with the vaccines themselves and even if you did you would not be harmed by them.  Hang in there!

thanks tal.
you're right i didn't want a dog and i should never have agreed to it. my family wanted one for a long time, and i finally gave it.
i regret it so much. i'm trying to learn to live with the decision though today's anxiety is making it hard.

my dr just called me and said she did not think that i was really at risk. my neutropenia is more related to bacterial infections than it is viruses, for one thing.  also, she said that the type of vaccine, modified live, is not likely to cause any disease so she didn't feel like i was at risk.  she said my dog could still get the next round, so she must not be concerned.

she is very concerned about bacterial infections from the dog biting me though, which is fine..i can handle that
