Mam, I SO understand what you are talking about. I've always been a bit of a worrier, but my anxiety really began when my mom had three strokes and my dad had heart problems. Then some other traumatic things happened, and BAM, I thought I would have a "nervous breakdown". My doc prescribed Lexapro, and although I hate taking meds and was resistant, I had to do something. I took meds for 9 months, and during that time went to therapy and learned strategies for dealing with my anxiety (and depression). I'm now med free, and SO much better, but I never would have gotten here without the Lexapro.
Talk to your doctor and see if he can prescribe something, and or therapy. You may not need it forever, but it can really help.
Good luck to you, and again, welcome to AZ.
