I've started going to a psychologist for my panic attacks/anxiety.  My primary care physician just prescribed me Paxil 20mg.  Any opinions on this drug?  I have the bottle, but have yet to take any after reading reviews online.  Many negative, but also many positive reviews.

My primary care physician just prescribed me Paxil 20mg.

Did s/he prescribe 20mg as the starting dose? If so, it is often too high for those with anxiety disorders. You would probably find it much easier taking 10mg/day for a week. However, you need to clear this with your PCP first as there may be reasons why s/he wants you on the higher dose.

Paxil can be a very effective med for anxiety/panic. It's biggest drawback is that it can be one of the two hardest antidepressants to discontinue. Switching to Prozac (fluoxetine) when the time comes and weaning off it is usually easier.

NOTE: I'm not a doctor, and particularly not yours, so there may be factors I'm unaware of. Therefore all suggestions are general in nature and you should consult your doctor before following any of it, especially before changing med doses.
