Bleeding gums and leukemia. Again.
« on: January 29, 2014, 11:09:30 AM »
Hey fellow HAs :(

I've been working myself into a frenzy about bleeding gums. Last night, when I brushed my teeth (which, I should say, I don't do as often as I should, and I sometimes skip days), one specific spot that bled a lot last time (about 3 weeks ago?) bled again! It stopped fairly quickly, but there was a LOT more blood than the usual "you need to brush more" blood. It gushed for a few seconds, and there was a lot of blood in the sink when I spit it out. It's in one specific spot. I'm going to the dentist tomorrow hopefully, I just don't want to be told I have something serious.

Needless to say, my first thought was LEUKEMIA. I don't have any of the other symptoms (maybe I'm a little tired? but I didn't notice that before I saw my gum bleed...), but no night sweats or fever (I take my temperature often...) or flu symptoms.

I did see that post. Unfortunately I don't think it was caused by brushing too hard.

A few months ago I began taking better Care of my teeth Walter not taking very good care of them for quite some time. My gums would bleed quite a bit up until just recently

What exactly does "bleeding gums" with leukemia mean? Random bleeding? Bleeding a lot when brushing? Bleeding everywhere? It's so vague on Web MD and similar  sites ... :(

I have been flossing and brushing all day, focusing on that spot. It still bled a little when I flossed there today, but not as bad. I hope it's getting better.

It's a problem for dentist. Not some deadly disease, just a benign issue that will get fixed. ;)

The worst thing is reading "Dentists are often the first to recognize something is wrong because bleeding gums is a first sign of leukemia"

Jesus, stop googling. Bleeding gums are a common thing, leukemia is not.

Hi there. i have this issue too! My gums are kinda bleeding after i brush my teeth. Well to be honest, i never really floss (i mean really!) but i do brush my teeth often 3x a day, and take a mouthwash afterwards. And also it's been a long time since the last time i visit the dentist!! I mean i really never go to dentist ever since i hit the age of 15 i guess.

So right now i slowly brush my teeth so that it won't bleed that much. Its kinda stingy when i brush too hard so probably my gums were irritated by my habit of brushing too hard.
