Afraid to go to sleep
« on: January 27, 2014, 04:19:30 AM »
The other day I was taking a nap and woke up suddenly gasping for air ... I mean gasping!  Once I was able to catch my breath I had the awful taste of vomit in my mouth.  I was also having awful heart pain before I laid down.
I have suffered with acid reflux for years so I know that taste m   However I never woke up gasping for air.   I don't know if I vomited a little and was choking on that.  Or my reflux was so bad it was gagging me.
I don't know.
But ever since I am scared to sleep ... I fear that is going to happen again and it was unbelievablely scared or I'm going to die in my sleep.
When I try to lay down I get this odd rush sensation throughout my entire body and my body tingles.
And it feel like my breathing is labored or I can't grt enough air

Has anyone experienced this with acid reflux?

If your worried about acid refulx while you sleep, put an extra pillow under you to help prop your torso up - this will help gravity keep the acid from creeping up.

That has happened to me before. If it persists, I would tell your physician.

Could be apnea as well

That is a classic symptom.  You should check out the sleep disorder forum.

Anyone ever tell you you snore?

Might be sleep apnea, might be reflux kicking in. I had really bad reflux for a few weeks, went to the doc, he basically told me to take Prilosec in the morning and Zantec at night for 30 days, and if that doesn't kill your symptoms to come back for more tests. After 3-4 days on the meds my reflux went down completely, now I only take Zantec sometimes if I feel I need it (Prilosec made me really dizzy but Zantec didn't give me any side effects)
