is this normal?
« on: January 23, 2014, 08:04:01 PM »
Im trying to figure out if it is normal to having symptoms while not actually having a panic attack. I dont know if I should go to the doctor for these things or if its part of anxiety. I find myself worrying about these things a lot which causes some anxiety...
So my symptoms are feeling detached from reality
                                         Sick to my stomach. Nauseated
Chest pains-nothing severe. Sometimes its tightness and pressurr sometimes very small sharp pains
                                          Headaches
I just want to know if this would be something aside from anxiety so I can stop worrying about these things. I did go to the ER a couple weeks ago. I had a chest xray and ekg. Both were normal.
That does give me some relief but not 100%
Any input would help. Thanks

Hi Alesha,

I think it's definitely anxiety too.  Anxiety does so many things to our bodies - trembling hands, tightness in the chest, etc.  I'm glad your EKG and bloodwork came back okay.

You should talk to your doctor and see about possibly starting on some type of treatment, maybe talking to a therapist or pinpointing what is causing the anxiety.  Best wishes to you.  :)

We've all been in this boat - it's not a fun place to be but these boards seem like a great support system.  :)

As long as I can think its just anxiety and nothing else wrong I have been abke to get myself thru some episodes. Im hoping I can control it for the most part? A lot of things posted here have helped me.  Thanks for your response and kind words.

My anxiety does the same thing to me.  I have tightness in the center of my chest and my breathing feels off even when I'm not having a panic attack.  It's not fun, but there is help out there.  First, I went to my PCP and now I'm going to start going to a psychiatrist next week.  It's definitely not worth waiting to have this treated.  I waited a year, but I'm finally sick of it.

When I first started having anxiety symptoms, I went to the doctor and got fully checked out. I found it comforting to know that my symptoms were anxiety and not, say, a heart condition. This way I could focus on addressing the panic symptoms and not have to worry that maybe I really was sick after all.

If you haven't been to the doctor yet, I really recommend going. Get a clear bill of health, and then if you're still having lightheadedness and tingling in your fingers, THEN go to a therapist and work on finding ways to address your anxiety.
