Colonoscopy prep. Scared
« on: January 21, 2014, 04:37:38 PM »
This is awful. I have to be honest. Now I am feeling nauseous. :(. Just started round 2 of the yucky liquid. My belly sounds horrible. I am tired and I can't keep thinking there is bad news comIng my way is about 14 hours.  I need to calm down. My nerves are making this worse I think.

Yeah, its entirely unpleasant. I remember having it. Well, sort of. I remember waking up on the way home. Oh, I'll tell you what they didnt tell me. They have to use air to open your intestines enoug hto get a good look. This means what you think it does.

In any event. Its over relatively fast. Try not to freak out. But even if you do, you'll be drugged up enough that it wont cause problems.

Jb - I just had a colonoscopy in June. The prep was by far the worse part. The stuff I had to drink reminded me of pirate sweat. haha! It was gross. I was hungry. My butt hurt from going to the bathroom. Ugh. The procedure itself was a breeze. Seriously. Plus you get the results right away. No waiting!

Try to think positive thoughts. I know it is hard, but the more rational and positive thoughts you can plant in your mind, the better.  :action-smiley-065:

May I asked why you are having one? I am a 26 year old female and having one done for bright red blood streaks on stool. I'm absolutely terrified of what they will find. I had let this go one year because I am so afraid of colon cancer. I am scheduled for my scope feb 6 so very soon. I would love to hear your update! Good luck.

Well after a year, I'd imagine its a good bet it isn't anything serious. I see that complaint pretty often around here and its usually hemmorhoids.

Ive been having a lot of gurgling , cramping , skinny and incomplete stool. I have seen blood when I wipe but none on the stool itself. My stool was checked that was normal I had an ultrasound. Normal again. Then sent for a flex sigmoidoscopy. They found a tiny polyp last month so I was scheduled for a full blown colonoscopy this morning.  The prep was hard , very hard. I was hungry , my butt was sore. I couldn't get warm and my anxiety was through the roof. I woke up this morning dreading this test. Let me tel you it was a breeze. The drugs they give you are amazing. The polyp was hard to remove because it was so small. Other tha that I have a " Prestine " Colon. I was so happy to hear that news. A 10 month weight was lifted. I do not regret believing I had something serious wrong because I would have never had the polyp removed.  I would tell anyone at any age to go get it of your habits changed and you feel uncomfortable.  I have to go back in 6 months for the flex sigmoidoscopy to check the polyp removed area.  He didn't explain why and I was too drugged up to really care.  I ate. Picked up my daughter. ( I'm a 29 year old female ) I didn't drive. My fiancÚ did. Had a nap. My bowels are still VERy loud. But the doc said that's normal in some adults.  I will try what I can do quiet them down. This has been a long and horrible road with this fear. I promised myself I will not move onto another health fear and I plan on keeping that promise.  I am thankful for all the words of wisdom you all have given me. It means so much.  I am sure you are fine and def internal hems. Do the test. It is not pleasant prepping but very worth it.

:) :) ). Staying strong and proud of myself

Great news!
I'm so happy for you!!!
So what is the most likely cause of your symptoms? IBS?
I had my official colonoscopy results, as well as small intestine barium x-ray and all was clear. My Gastro is saying it's possibly IBS. I've to try the FODMAP diet for the next couple of months, til my next appointment in April.

You should probably wait to speak with your Gasteo and see what s/he advises. But if you google low FODMAP diet you will see what it is.
