When I was a young man of 25, I had blood in the toilet bowl after a bowel movement and more
blood when I wiped. It turned out to be nothing serious.

I worked as an office manager for the dept of anesthesiology in a large city hospital.  I looked at medical records all day long.  We also had free access to any physician on staff.  By 23 years old, I convinced the Chief of Cardiology to let me wear a halter monitor for 48 hours (my best friend had a mitral valve prolapse).  Of course I was fine.   At 25 developed CFS, then dxd with fibro at 32.

At 23 you make me feel young, and I've had hypochondria since I was in my teens!

I started with Panic after loosing 2 friends in separate car accidents, panic caused me to develop sever anxiety. Not knowing much about anxiety at 18 I thought I was dying all the time. So I guess my anxiety symptoms caused my HA :)

i think my HA was always there, it just went haywire when i was admitted to the ER for shortness of breath/palpitations last year November 2013.

as a child knowing that my family had a history of diabetes and that my cousin had juvenile diabetes made me scared that i may have the same thing or that i will eventually get sick of that illness but i never really told anybody about this fear. during my early 20s my dad got a lab that showed elevated FBS, he was given a diet to follow and for some crazy reason i secretly followed his diet even if nothing was wrong with me and now i feel my entire HA is focused on wanting to control everything, like maybe an early diagnosis will save me or something.

It all started way back in the middle of 2012. When my left knee got swelled and stiff, i came to the point of fearing bone cancer! Because i had a aunt who died of bone cancer on her back bone. Also google told me that swelling is a symptom of bone cancer in knee which really frightened me a lot! I begged my mom to get me checked and after the xray doctor told me there was no sign of bone fracture or mass on my knee and his diagnosis was meniscus tear. Well i was doing some intense work out especially running. Until then frlm now my health anxiety still here and got worse! Now i had on/off fear of Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

Haaaah.. How hard life is.

I was severely sunburnt and due to the dryness, in the pit of my arm, between my forearm and my bicep a little scab appeared. Clearly, the skin had cracked because how dry the sun burn made it - and at first, this is what I thought. But then, due to my lingering fear of skin cancer (I always feared this even without health anxiety because I am pale and it is the most common cancer), at around 4am, I started googling… and then convinced I had skin cancer, I went to the ER - haha.

From then, it escalated to the point where I am only sleeping half of my days on pills now. Afraid of everything. If any little dot on my skin appears, I am checking it throughout the day - the whole day. If I get an ache, related to the bone, I fear bone cancer. If I get diarrhoea, I fear bowel cancer. If I get an headache, I fear brain tumour.

My main concern now is my insomnia - and I haven't felt this bad about anything. When I feared about various cancers, I could at least get to sleep at night - but now, I fear that I won't sleep, which of course makes me not sleep. I honestly don't know how long I would be able to go without sleeping pills. Because for the past 6 days, I haven't been able to sleep myself without medication. I usually spend 2 days without sleep but every second day without sleep, 2 pills that night usually sends me to sleep for adequate hours. Then I won't sleep all that night and take another 2 pills the following night - it repeats.

I've always been a bit of a worrier even as a kid but in my last year if university is when my health anxiety started to kick in and first year of working full time is when I completely broke down. I still have anxiety and have moments and times when it all gets too much but I just pick myself and carry on. I believe that you never rally get rid of anxiety it is always a part of you but you learn to control it.

I think I've always had anxiety, but it really started getting bad about 9 years ago when my best friend, who was 24 died suddenly.  The autopsy was inconclusive.  It terrified me because he was so young and I had just talked to him on the phone that morning and he seemed fine.  A couple years later I was misdiagnosed as having moderate to severe emphysema at 25 years old.  I was devastated to have such a diagnosis at that age!  I did smoke at the time, but quit right then.  I thought only older people who had smoked most of their lives got that.  I later saw 2 different Pulmonary Specialists who retested me and diagnosed me with Reactive Airway Disease/Asthma.  I became distrustful of doctors at that point.  My Mother was diagnosed with cancer not long after.  She was on a low dose/maintenance chemo for about 2 years and responding well.  Her oncologist was considering taking her off the chemo completely because she was doing so well.  We were overjoyed!  He decided to run some tests first.  During a PET scan, my mom suffered an arrhythmia and died suddenly.  There have been other things over the years, but I think that these things were the most detrimental to my HA.  I usually have at least one health freak out a year and I'm currently going through one now.  My main fear is cancer, but I have heart/sudden death fears as well.

In 2005 my daughter was 23 months old and was diagnosed with leukemia. The month leading up to her diagnosis I knew something was very wrong but everyone, including the doctor, said she was fine. When I finally verbalized to people that my fear was that she had cancer, they all called me crazy and said how ridiculous that was. Well, I ended up being proven right. Now I have it in my head that the worst case scenario does happen. I often (but not always) will fear the worst now and I hate it.

A pinched nerve.  We recently purchased a home, and in the process of moving, setting up the house, and doing a lot of repetitive motions, I got a pinched nerve.  Well, the anxiety came from a lot of emotions, both good & bad, and it came to a head.  It's been getting better, but I have my days.

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.  - AnxietyZone member Sixpack

I used to be dumb when I was younger and I used to catch animals A LOT! I caught mice + birds and over that year I got bitten on the three fingers in between my thumb and pinkie by mice that I caught over that year. Fast forward 7 yrs. later and those fingers started tingling (Carpel Tunnel, pinched nerve, or something) and I thought it was rabies since it was a WILD animal that bit me so many years ago, and when my anxiety was at its height was when my dad decided we should keep and hand raise a raccoon, NO... MY anxiety was off the charts for that is WILD and a RACCOON, sick. My dad is just like me sometimes, he likes wildlife as well. Anyways I've been up and down and this is my all time low from going to theraphy, party time!
