I wouldn't believe everything I read. That study is just a certain amount of people. The population of the US is far greater than that. That study is like one speck of sand on a vast beach. There are millions of people who have heart burn and similar issues who would never get cancer or anything like it. I am sure those who got cancer may have other factors too that they failed to add in to the article. Like a lot of them might have been smokers. Try not read such studies. It does you no good at all.

Don't let it worry you. Remember they are saying (and again it is based on a small sample size) that frequent heartburn increases the risk of cancer by 78%. That does not mean that if you have frequent heartburn you have a 78% of getting cancer. Instead it means your risk is elevated but still very very small.

Sometimes a good diagnostic test is the best treatment you could get.  In your case an endoscopy (EGD) will tell you the state of your esophagus and stomach and whether you have signs that might increase your risk for cancer.  Remember, there are people who never have heartburn yet have precancerous or cancerous lesions in their esophagus……I know…..I was one of them!
