Exaggerated startled response?!!
« on: January 19, 2014, 04:09:58 PM »
How many anxiety sufferers get this? It's possibly my worse symptom next to DP. I jump on eye contact even; if someone's walking round the corner I jump out of my skin and get a sudden rush of adrenaline.

I think like everyone has that. I don't really agree that it's as bad as depersonalization though lol.

One thing to understand though is that like 95% of the time people can't tell when you get startled, it's a pretty subtle reaction. It's annoying, but it's just part of anxiety I guess.

Hi "C"...

Yep, an exaggerated startle response is certainly part of my anxiety makeup.  I am still plenty sensitized, so it doesn't take much to put me over the edge.  When the phone rings, I jump out of my skin.  Or when my cat jumps up on the back of the chair I am sitting on, I go right through the roof. :sprachlos020:

I know that it's normal to have a startle response.  It can save us from a dangerous situation.  But mine is exaggerated.

I would guess that if I do return to a more normal state, it will be one of the last things to tone down.

The very best to you, "C"!...  Chuck
