Bump on waist - please help.
« on: January 18, 2014, 07:20:34 PM »
There is a bump inside of my skin and people can feel it when I lean in a certain direction. Ironically I have been experiencing mild discomfort around my rib area (which is close to where this bump is). The bump is on my waist, kinda close to where my mid to lower back is. I am really scared that it's a tumor. Please help. Any comforting advice or help would be appreciated.

Take comfort in knowing that most bumps and lumps that people find are completely benign!

Does it feel soft and roll around easily? It could be a lipoma, which is just a harmless, fatty bump!

It could also be a cyst. Cysts can form anywhere!

Is this lump hard or soft? Is it mobile or fixed? Does it feel rough or smooth? How long has it been there? Is it actually painful or not (i.e. have you been prodding it enough to cause it to hurt or is it hurting on its own accord)?

For peace of mind and a proper diagnosis, I would suggest seeing a doctor. Not to worry though - like I said, most bumps are benign, and there are many things that could cause it.

It's hard and fixed. It feels like it could be a bone but I do not have it on the other side at all.

I'm really, really scared. My friends have felt it and they all think it feels like an "inflamed muscle" but I really am scared it's cancer. I get pain on that side regularly, but it's like a pulsating pain that comes and goes. I have a lot of anxiety.

I really, really doubt that it's cancer, but if it's causing you pain and you're worried about it, you should really get it checked out.

I really doubt it's anything to worry about either.

But if you're that worried you should get it checked out. Only a doctor will be able to diagnose you.

If it makes you feel better I have a small, hard, immovable lump just in front of my ear. I worried about it for a month before finally seeing a doctor. She felt it for 10 seconds and said it was nothing to worry about.

I'm sure you're fine. But having been in your situation I'm equally sure you probably won't be able to move on from it until a doctor has had a look.

It feels like a bone, but I don't think that's what it is. It's on the left side.

I'd just go get it checked out.  I had a hard bump on the back of my hand for a while.  Wicked painful.  But, just had a cyst, got it removed.  No trouble: )

I get those sometimes. They usually go away on their own. Give it a few weeks.

So, I went to the doctor and he's pretty convinced that it's a lipoma - which he says is nothing to worry about. But to be safe, he's gonna do an ultrasound, but he's pretty positive. Thank you all for your support.
