New member freaked out!!! - husband has positive iFOBT
« on: January 16, 2014, 07:57:43 PM »
I'm new here and didn't know whether to post this under GAD or here.  I have GAD and I'm hypo too, although I do have legitimate health problems, one being eventually terminal.  My husband and I both had routine iFOBT's as part of a physical.  Mine was negative (strong hx of colon ca) and his was positive (no hx of colon ca).  I have been freaking out and he doesn't see the gastro until the end of the month.  He was just off work 2 months for a work related injury and I'm already imagining he has colon cancer, which my father did at age 49.  This is bringing back horrible memories to me and I am so worried that I am googling everything I can find.  He was on Vicodin and Percocet and was very constipated due to both together.  Now, that he is off Percocet, his bowels are regular for him which may be going every day or every 3 or 4 days.  He takes 81 mg. of aspirin a day and Plavix about four days a week.  I know you guys can't diagnose but can someone pleeeeease help me to stop obscessing about him having colon cancer!!!!!!    Thanks!

I am no t a dr but a positive test like these only means small chance of cancer ....and on top of that if it is which it prob isnt its prob caught very early which means there is a very high chance of total recover .....total ... early detection of bowel cancer has up to 90% survival rate.....good odds.....

Don't automatically jump to that.
How long has he been taking the aspirin? It's a low dose, but if he has a sensitive stomach, maybe that is messing with it, irritating the lining. Also, in combination with the other pain killers.... could have something to do with it.

I finally figured out that I have to be logged in to reply!  He is also taking Plavix which is an anti-platelet med like aspirin.  He has no other symptoms.  He did lose a few pounds after his surgery but the dr. wasn't concerned about the weight loss.  Hgb and Hmt are normal.  Has anyone else here had a positive iFOBT and turned out to be anything other than cancer?

Don't stress. I had a +fobt on both samples with history of chronic constipation and my colonoscopy was squeaky clean!

Lots of things can cause a positive FOB including Vit. C.

My husband's was positive and he was fine.  Mine was negative and I had Stage IIIB (now Stage IVa) colon cancer.

My father had a positive FOBT quite often. The doctors attributed it to a small leak
somewhere. He lived to 93.
