Panic attack? Haven't had one in a while...
« on: January 14, 2014, 09:48:31 PM »
Last night, I woke up around 3am.  I turned over to go back to sleep and I broke out in a sweat.  Not a cold sweat, like a hot flash (24 years old--definitely not menopause).  My heart started pounding hard and fast.  It was all over in a couple of minutes and I was able to go back to sleep.  However, I also had dreams of being chased by a dragon during which I could feel my heart pounding in my dream.  I imagine if I had woken up my real heart would also have been pounding.

I haven't had an actual panic attack in probably 10 years (usually I just have periods of heightened anxiety)  so I'm wondering if this sounds like panic to you guys?

Sounds like a nocturnal panic attack to me. When I have a vivid and disturbing dream I will have a flash of panic with accelerated heartrate, flushing, adrenaline rush

yeah, I found this so strange!  I wasn't dreaming before the attack and I certainly didn't wake up in a panic.

I am still so shocked that a panic attack can come out of no where.  I am also shocked by the fact that a pounding, rapid heart beat is NOT a real medical issue.

Bewildering and fear producing for sure to feel our body get so revved up!  As long as I've had it it still feels real and disturbing when it happens.  Doctors I have seen attribute this condition to anxiety/panic. Take care
