Would I be sicker by now? PLEASE HELP... so freaked out!
« on: January 13, 2014, 12:12:53 AM »
I just can't stop obsessing over pancreatic cancer. I read cancer survivor's blogs and Google like crazy because I keep thinking, what if the tests missed something. So a couple of months ago I had an abdominal CT without contrast and the doctor said everything looked great, no cancer of any sort. But then I started worrying that because there was no contrast maybe the test missed something, so I went off to the emergency room about a month and a half ago and they gave me a CT with contrast. Dr said there was nothing on the CT to worry about.
Could two CTs have missed pancreatic cancer?
My previous symptoms were that I lost weight and had a backache. Since then, my weight has stabilized (but I think I'm eating more) and the backache comes and goes.
Now I'm nauseous every once in awhile. I'm wondering... if it were cancer, would I be sicker after all of this time? I went to urgent care yesterday and they ran blood work and urine tests and said everything was normal. Would it still be normal, after all this time (at least 6 months) if I had pancreatic cancer?
I'm thinking of asking for MRI. How reliable is CT anyways at spotting pancreatic cancer? Afraid to Google, because there's always that story of the one guy that all his tests missed something.
Please help me, any experienced CT people out there who know how effective a CT is for finding pancreatic cancer would be greatly appreciated.
Oh.. and I'm a 39 year old female, so I know it usually affects older people.
Anyways, thank you in advance!

I can think of a lot of things that fit those exact symptoms that aren't cancer related and far far less lethal. I know its hard to accept a diagnosis, I fall prey to the 'what if they missed something' thought also all the time, especially when i have some quiet time to make up problems in my brain.

I only have an Emt level understanding of medicine, but I know that the pancreas is responsible for lots of different hormones. Depending on where on the pancreas the malignancy happens, I would imagine It would create some pretty severe problems that you would notice.

I'm just trying to figure out if by now, if I had something, wouldn't it show up on bloodwork and manifest itself more aggressively?

You would be unable to hold down food and fluids.

I recently lost a bunch of weight and worries about the same.

I have managed to not lose any weight in the last 3 months (I fluctuate, but overall I'm the same as I was in October) but now I have this pain under my left rib. It comes and goes, but when it's here it makes me think pancreatic cancer. Is that even a symptom of PC? I think I read somewhere it was.

I have backache a lot, feel sick most days and I'm losing weight - but I'm worried I have a brain tumour!! See how anxiety symptoms are all similar?!

Loosing weight is very common with anxiety due to all the stress we put on ourselves - it speeds everything up in the body plus we probably don't eat as much as we should!

I actually stopped losing weight, but I started eating more. Could it be that would stop the weight loss if it was cancer?
Also now I have a "kidney" pain. Has anyone experienced that?
