Muscle Twitches - Help?
« on: January 11, 2014, 12:46:25 PM »
Hey guys... do any of you have muscle twitches?

I have always had the odd twitch - who doesn't. But the past couple of weeks i've had random twitches in my fingers/legs etc. I have no idea why they happen! but they do.

I haven't been that anxious recently either - so anxiety maybe isn't the cause..... but i just don't know.

I'm not really worrying over them as they don't happen every minute of the day.... just more often than i feel they should?

Anyone got any help? Thanks!

Yes, I'm having twitches in my left foot and leg, once in my right leg, and lots in my eye lid, and left hand fingers. On and off all the time for months. Neuro guy doesn't seem to be concerned but I want a brain mri which I have to wait for since in Canada there's a 6 month wait. I wonder if it's concentrating on it since the twitches recently got worse when I started panicking about them again.

You're brave having the mri! I didn't consider it would be serious like that :(

Mine have been pretty much all over. Legs, fingers, arms. They are just a split second movement. I don't know what's causing it...

It is called Benign fasciculation syndrome. Completely harmless and nothing to worry about.

I've had twitches so bad when my anxiety was at its peak. I still have them even though my colon cancer dear is somewhat under control. My calves and arms twitch. My belly. And my fingers and hands.  I had an eye twitch for a month straight. My calves still bubble. I iqnore them now and don't notice so much

Don't worry. We all get twitching - just like you I seem to have them in my fingers and legs mostly. When I pay attention to them is when I really notice them. I don't think it's anything to worry about, I've been having them for about two years now.

Also, you don't need to be feeling anxious to experience any kind of anxiety symptom, I seem to always have some kind of symptom even when I"m just sitting at home watching tv.

Don't think too much about it :)

Thank you for the help guys! - I've realised i have been anxious recently.. but not about health. I just dont attribute it to my disorder because it's 99% health anxiety - so any other worries i pass off. - Maybe it hasn't helped.

In terms of the twitches - I have seen my finger/thumb MOVE on it's own for a split second. Has anyone else? - Its fine unless its rested...

I get them in my ankles, legs, arms, shoulders and fingers. - Very odd.....

Thanks again everyone! Really helped :)

Yes, I'm having that. My fingers just move on their own especially at night while I'm trying to wind down. If I hold my hand in a certain position, my finger goes back and forth as well. But when I'm trying to relax I feel little jumps and twitches all over randomly. I had one in my calf this morning and in my fingers at night. Sometimes in my lip, sometimes eyelid, etc.

My left thumb will twitch sometimes when my hand is resting - it's been doing it for a month now. I freaked out and went to see my Neurologist, but he didn't seem concerned.

I also had an MRI in October, which was completely normal.

You'd be amazed at what anxiety can do to your body.

Thanks everyone! I'm just wondering if i'm resting on nerves too much?

I sit cross legged a LOT at home. I just always have. I sit like i'm meditating... hahaha. I also get most of my twitches in my fingers at work - whilst resting my arm and using the computer mouse. - Maybe it's my sitting in strange positions coming back to bite me.. who knows?

I've just noticed an increase that's all - Everyone's comments have helped tough i'll see how things go :)

Guys... can anyone help?

I've heard about MS and twitching. How would i know? - I'm worried about MS now!! - MY muscles aren't weak they just jerk out of nowhere for some reason. Not constantly... but just too much for my liking!

Thanks for all the help so far... but the MS fear is getting to me a bit. Can anyone clear up the difference? :S

Go check ALS and twitching, it's much worse.  :P Like I said above, you are fine, it's BFS. Just go to www.aboutbfs.com and you'll see many people with same thing.

I have had muscle twitches for 8 months. I even went and got an EMG to rule out ALS. They have gotten better but I still have them. Each twitch heightens my anxiety. I have to make a conscious effort to talk myself down and to know that if it was something serious like ALS the disease would have progressed by now. Give it time and if nothing gets worse you are fine! Hang in there!

Yes, I twitch all the time. My thumb, my feet, my hands, eyelids, muscles in legs. It's anxiety.
