Has anyone here had a c-reactive protein test?
« on: January 10, 2014, 12:17:12 PM »
It's a blood test to measure inflammation in the body. The higher the number, the more inflammation you have. I've heard a simple cold can increase your number, but so can cancer. So I had the blood test done yesterday, and I will hopefully have the results by Monday, but I'm super nervous about my results.

Anyone had experience with this test?

I have had it a few times and all I can remember my doctor saying it was in normal range and not
to worry about it. He also said that any inflammation in your body can raise it such as gastritis,
arthritis, etc.

I'm not sure if it's the same test I had a test done due to a fast heart rate the test came back high so I had to have a ct scan to check for blood clots. Ct was clear but I remember them saying the test can be raised from a virus and I had a cold at the time. They do it to be precautious. Not sure if it's same test but it sounds similar, why r u having it done?

I have no idea why my doctor ordered it. I've been dealing with some GI issues, but had a colonoscopy which was normal. So IDK why he ordered it. Kinda freaking me out. I just had an abdominal ultrasound today and that came back normal. My platelet count has been low, so I'm being referred to a hematologist, but my GI doc reassured me that it's only mildly low and it might just be the "normal" for my body. All other blood counts (white blood cell, red blood cell, ect) is normal.

But I just know that if this test comes back elevated I'm automatically going to assume I have some type of cancer (as that is what I tend to gravitate to), because cancer can elevate it as well.
