GAD & IBS + Stress
« on: January 09, 2014, 10:28:56 PM »
Good afternoon,

In the past month things have been getting worse for me. At first I had stomach cramps at work and saw 3 different doctors who gave me 3 different medications for it before finally getting blood, urine and other tests done. Nothing out of the ordinary has shown up in any of these tests and the doctors including my psychiatrist believes it to be stress related.

I was supposed to only have two weeks off work during the holiday period but now this is the third week I am off and I told work it was due to a stomach problem. I must admit I don't know what to do or handle it because my anxiety and depression have been much work and my stomach constantly feels very uncomfortable, cramping and sometimes mild nausea.

I have put great thought into resigning from work as I can't cope at home as it is so there is no way I can return to work. I often wish I was dead and I can barely enjoy anything that I did before. I have had GAD for about 10 years now but I have never had it this bad that it actually effected my stomach.

I am making an appointment with a gastro specialist and hope I can get a colonoscopy and x-ray done just to be safe.

Does anyone else suffer like this? How do you cope? Is there foods I should avoid or eat more of? Should I jog / run faster or just walk for longer?

I am at my wits end now and if anyone can help it would be appreciated as I don't know how much more I can take.

Thank you.

Well the first thing I can say is try not to make big life choices while in a sever anxiety spell. Now more to the point.I have suffered from GAD, Panic Disorder, and Depression for yearss. And the one thing I know is that it plays insane havoc with my Stomach. I have gone through the medical works, only to be told there was nothing wrong physicaly.

How do I cope?
I usually try to keep myself distracted with the little things. Things like browsing this forum, taking my online classes(very tough as of my recent episodes), doing household chores. All these really are just minor. Getting on proper medication would be a good idea also. I am new to meds because I refused for the longest time to admit anything was wrong.

Diet and walking do help to a certain point. I usually eat lots of rice and very mild foods with good fiber in my episodes.

Sorry I can not offer much more, I myself am still struggling a great deal.
