ggt liver ennzymes high
« on: January 09, 2014, 10:24:38 AM »
I have reached the depths of despair, I haven't slept in two nights and I feel at the end of my rope.  GGT level of 105 and everything else is normal.  I exercise, eat healthy, raw juice every day drink minimum amounts of alcohol.  I think I must have something terrible wrong with my liver.  My husband and I were at the Napa Valley for 10 days of wine tasting 20 days before I had the blood work done.  But on reflection 5 days before the bloodwork I had 1 glass of wine and 1/2 a sleeping pill.  Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

If your doctor wasn't worried about it neither should you.

She wants me to get re tested in 6 weeks.  I don't know how I can hold on that long.

Can you provide some context? What does a GGT level of 105 mean? How "high" is that? What's a "normal" level? What does a GGT marker measure, anyway?

Your lifestyle certainly doesn't reflect that of someone with liver problems. Do you have liver disease in your family? How old are you? It could be anything—a faulty test, a temporary high reading—the fact that your doctor only thinks you need retesting in six weeks should tell you it's probably not that serious. One glass of wine and half a sleeping pill does not a problem make. Pointless to say this to a hypochondriac, but try not to worry about it; you're making a mountain out of a molehill. Are you doing anything currently to address your anxiety?

Normal GGT level is 0-45, I am 60 years old and have always kept myself very healthy.  The ggt is the level for alcohol use which makes no sense to me .  Basically it shows if you abuse alcohol but there must be some other explanation.  Does anyone know?  I drink a lot less than any of my friends, just wine on weekends 2-3 glasses except for the Napa trip but abstained after I got home for close to 3 weeks except for the one glass 5 days before the blood work.

As I said before 105 is not that bad Infact mine was 105 and I was delighted as it was better than it was 5 years ago!
