Trying to lose weight, scared when I actually do.
« on: January 08, 2014, 02:28:52 PM »
Does this happen to anyone else? I recognize it is crazy, but there we are.

I weighed myself today. 6'1", 25, male, I weighed 245 around three weeks ago, I'd say. I just weighed myself, and it was 238. I've been drinking no soda, drinking water instead, and I've had a cold, trying not to overeat, and so on. But when I see that lower number, something in my head thinks "CANCER WEIGHT LOSS"

Any tips?

Yes, maybe don't weigh yourself very often. :)

That's not meant to sound snarky, it's just that oftentimes, "self checking" leads only to an increase in anxiety.

Plus, that amount of weight loss isn't that drastic. Plus, you've been TRYING. I once lost seven pounds in a week and a half due to anxiety alone.

In case anyone is still confused:  googling your symptoms will cause you to remain in a state of extreme anxiety. Stepping away from the internet is the first step toward lasting peace.

Absolutely. I am a 26 year old female who is 5'1 and 127 lbs. I was actually relieved to see the scale at 131 a month or so ago after experiencing extreme colon cancer fears for a year now however I am also so depressed with my weight. I dropped about 5 pounds and have been watching what I eat and using my elliptical. I will try not to panic when my scale goes down and know I am improving my health.

I can completely relate to this. I am wanting to lose weight but not really trying at the moment and if I'm honest the fact that I haven't lost any is a relief to me because I am experiencing cancer fears at the moment. But in the past I have done just the same as you, I was trying to lose weight by exercising, eating better etc and when I did lose about half a stone, I spent days worrying that there was something wrong, that was until the pounds started climbing up again, no doubt due to the extreme over-eating that I do when I'm stressed. I don't have any tips I'm afraid but you are trying to lose weight so its a positive, so just try to stay positive :)

Somehow you are benefiting when you are fat, so cancer comes as perfect reason not to work out. My suggestion would be to work out, eat healthy and stop measuring. Just look at the mirrow, and when you  see yourself looking better rhan before, that will motivate you to continue.

My god, I could have just written your post!

I've been really really scared of weight loss recently and if you follow my posts, you can see that I cannot just stop talking about it!

Taking my weight also makes me anxious. What scares me the most is that people keep telling me that I lost weight. So scared! :(

Please let us know how you're doing as well. We can get through this together!

I feel the same way myself sometimes. Repeated self checking can be a disaster.
