Anxiety worse in mornings?
« on: January 07, 2014, 11:05:56 AM »
I wonder why? I wake up always feeling like my entire body is nervous. What am I nervous about? Half the time I have nausea too and don't eat breakfast. When I take my first Xanax then second then third throughout the day I'm usually ok but still get some anxious feelings in the space between taking the xanax.

Yep. My anxiety is much worse in the morning. It's like my mind is trying to figure out something to be anxious about. It's trying to find a disease or something to focus on...even when there is seemingly nothing that I'm freaking out about at that moment.

By the evening I'm much better. I have no idea why this happens.

Do you work during the day? I work days and I always find that my anxiety is worse at work. I feel much better when I'm at home at night in my safe place.

I'm a stay at home mom, and my husband's work schedule changes from one day to the next. Sometimes he goes in super early and is home by noon, sometimes he's home at 5pm. But when he comes home, my anxiety doesn't automatically go away. For some reason, I'm better in the evenings.

Yea absolutely, even if there is nothing to be anxious about.  Stomach-aches, nausea, kinda dizzy... Wish I knew what to do. :-/

Could have written this myself. I'm the exact same way. I hate starting my days off like this.  :dazed:

Steph: I hate starting my mornings off this way too. Just wish I could feel "normal" again. I'm fighting back against it today. Today has been a good day so far, but the constant "searching" thoughts are still there, but I'm trying to occupy my mind. Busy busy busy! So I received some new cookbooks in the mail this morning, so today I'm going to explore those, and I've decided to get all dressed up today - even though I'm not leaving the house. Trying my darndest to take my mind and put it to GOOD use.

I'm exactly the same because I feel like as I'm just waking up I have forgotten about my anxiety and then it all comes flooding back and I think 'right so what have I got to be worried about today?' Then my brain tumour fear hits me full force!!

Mine is way worse in the morning a few weeks ago I would wake up every morning with full body tremors, this was when I was most anxious but eventually it went away (Thank God!). I also get it pretty badly sometimes before I go to sleep which makes it even worse in the morning.

I am often more anxious in the mornings as well.  I sometimes even feel ok right after I wake up, but then I immediately search for the anxiety--and then I find it: )

I don't know if you have any thoughts about beating this, but I like what bpadilla49 had to say.  I like making a plan the night before and then following through in the morning no matter how anxious I feel.  I personally like to go for a walk.  This is because I feel more anxious when I am alone and going for a walk makes me feel part of the world.  But your needs might be different.

I suggest trying to do something that gives you an activity.  Maybe you cook a really nice breakfast for yourself.  Not just cereal in a bowl, but something you cook that actually takes some time and effort.  Maybe you could walk your dog, lift weights, knit, write a poem, call a friend.  Just something you enjoy.  That way, you can start to replace your anxious feelings with the positive feelings of doing something that you love.

This is me 100%. I feel so much better right before I go to sleep. But when I wake up the next morning it's like I can't start off my day until I find something to stress over or until I can remember what it was I was already stressing over the day before. But once night time comes again I'm fine. But for me it's at bed time. I'm more relaxed.

Same. I hate the mornings. I wake up and say"yep i'm still here, then some ache comes, the heart starts racing, and then the scan. ughhhhh. By the time i'm done my shower, and blow drying my hair for work i'm really worked up. I don't know how i even manage to get to work everyday. (Some days i don't)
