Worried about having lymphoma
« on: January 02, 2014, 07:47:41 AM »
Recently I noticed the area behind my ear was swollen. Despite everything I learned over the last month about how to not trust the internet, I ended up looking up reasons why this area was swollen. I came across mastoiditis, which although not cancer, is still terrifying due to the chance of a multi-day hospital stay and the possibility of surgery. After ruling that out due to the swelling being the only symptom after a week (it doesn't hurt when I touch it, my parents looked and said it didn't look swollen, it's not red, there is no discharge coming from my ear), I started thinking it was a swollen lymph node. I wasn't particularly afraid until I read that hard, unmovable lymph nodes that didn't hurt could be a sign of lymphoma, leukemia or head and neck cancer. I'm more scared than I ever have been now. I'm trying to get my mind off of it, but I keep thinking about it.

Just get checked by your GP. You will not be able to diagnose yourself.

I am also passing through  a lymphoma scare period because my tonsils are unequal, but I have been reassured by my GP, so at least I got that...

Does it feel like a lymph node to you? is it like the size of a pea?
