Trying NOT to run to the ER :'(
« on: January 01, 2014, 03:18:04 AM »
I haven't been here in so long...
But, I don't want to Google...because I know bad things will come up.
I am in tears and I want to run to the ER....the story of an HA sufferer...
Of course, it is New Years eve night, where I live, and 2:14am.
So, it is probably packed....and I wouldn't even be seen for hours.
Anyways, I have been getting these really sharp horrible stabbing pains under my breast on my left side.
The pain comes suddenly and lasts for a couple of seconds and goes away.
I've gotten this pain about 4-5 separate times today.
And this pain started Sunday (it happened once) and also happened on Monday (1-2 times).
Today was the worst, but, I've also been burping a whole lot today, too.
Could it be gas?
But it doesn't feel like gas and it doesn't travel....it is always in the same area (under my left breast) and it feels as if a nerve has been triggered or something.
It makes it hard to even breathe  :(
I'm freaking out and thinking that I have am about to have a heart attack or that I have a blood clot in my chest and I'm about to die!
I'm afraid to go to sleep.....
Can someone talk to me please?  :sad0144:
Has anyone else experienced something like this before?

And, please don't tell me anything to trigger a full panic attack....please....

I also get this as u described and sometimes it can take my breath! I seriously wouldn't worry I notice it when I've ate fatty food and feel abit icky lol it can also be linked to tiredness and stress even excitement. I think it's natur to worry with chest pains but unless it is pains which are continuous try to relax. Just to add my friend had this same symptoms but it was happening very regular it turned out she had a chest infection so if u have had cold or feel run down that could be another cause. See how u feel and if it continues book in with the doc :)

It could be something as simple as a pulled muscle, a gallbladder attack (which is NOT serious, and you'd have other symptoms like nausea, vomiting, etc.) or it could be excess stomach acid (i.e.: GERD) as where you are describing is where your stomach is.

You could try taking an antacid like Tums, or even Zantac as it may help.

Panic/Anxiety will only make it worse, try laying down and relaxing.

Sounds like gas or muscle related to me.

Agree with all that has been said, it is probably digestive or muscular. A heart attack is supposed to feel like a crushing pain, like an elephant sitting on your chest. I get the pain you describe too and I have come to the conclusion it is stomach acid related, although if it keeps up I will get it checked by doctor. Hope its gone and you're feeling better about it today :)

OMG I've been having that too like feels like a someones stabbing something into you. I suggest EVERYONE on here go to *****.com it shows every physical symptom anxiety gives you it's really incredible what anxiety physically does to us. Everytime I feel a new symptom I go on that website and see it there. Anxiety can really mess with you. It helps me accept that the feelings I'm feeling is just my anxiety but I still get regular checkups and will go to the doctor if I really need that reassurance.

I get sharp pains like this and have gotten them for many years, since I was a child. I now believe that mine is something called precordial catch. It's a stabbing pain, often under the left breast, that comes on at random (usually at rest). My episodes can last a few seconds to a few minutes, even up to an hour. Precordial catch is not dangerous, and it's probably caused by a muscle spasm around the rib area. I have found that if I lay on my right side, the pain goes away immediately. Then I just rest for a few minutes until the spasm or whatever it is calms down. I don't know if this is what you're experiencing, but I would agree that heart related pains are usually not the stabbing kind.

I ended up going to the ER....
And no tests were done, but, the doctor did tell me that, supposedly, I am getting muscle spasms in the muscles that are in between my ribs.
Yet, another wonderful symptom of my Anxiety....
He also prescribed something for me to take whenever I am having high anxiety.
(Hydroxyzine Hcl...?)
I will be trying it tonight...since it might make me sleepy.

I had this exact same issue a few months ago and went to the ER. Of course it was benign -- the doctor thought it was likely pleurisy (benign inflammation of the lining around the lungs), which can cause sharp, intermittent pains in the rib cage area, especially when you breathe. It cleared up in a day or so. Then I got the bill in the mail for $700.... :-(  Health anxiety is expensive.
