My Story - Seeking support and help

Hi, my name is Al and I joined the forum seeking support and help.  I am a 47 year old male.  I have had some therapy over these last few years.  I suffer from what I call a mind that never rests.  I can never be "in the moment".  I'm always thinking about 100 things.  I care about what everyone else thinks.  I suffer from self confidence at times.  I set the bar very high and am very hard on myself.  I believe this is anxiety but am not convinced.  I have taken celexa at low doses and it helps.  I have done yoga and it helps.  My therapist says I am too much "Clark Kent" and not enough "Superman".  I can be an introvert at times.  If I had a wish, it would be to learn how to quiet my mind.  I liken it to the movie from the 1970's Scanners.

So here I will do some research....................

Hi Al,

Welcome to the forum.  It is great to have you as a member.  This is a wonderful place to get advice and support from people going through similar situations.  The members here are very helpful. It is nice to know we are not alone.

Feel free to explore the forum.  There are lots of useful topics to read.  Feel free to post and ask questions.  If you have specific concerns or questions start a topic in the appropriate section to get the best feedback. There is also a chat room for members 18 years and older that you can access once you have made three meaningful posts in the forum. 

I understand what you are saying about the mind never settling.  I have that issue as well.  Sometimes it takes me hours to shut off my mind to even fall asleep at night.  This definitely goes hand in hand with anxiety.  The constantly worrying mind finds lots of different details to be anxious about and question everything.  acceptance is key to moving past these times and feeling like you have worth again. I hope you are able to find the help and support you are looking for here.
