Afraid of having a one-time seizure
« on: December 16, 2013, 06:22:50 PM »
So even though I have no family history or personal history of seizures, I'm afraid of having a one-time seizure. This is because I just learned that people can still get seizures even though they don't have epilepsy. I keep thinking that any second, it's very possible for me to have one. And I read many stories of people who don't have a history of epilepsy who end up having a seizure. If anyone has any advice for me, I would appreciate it. Thank you.

If you've never had one, and you have no family history, I really don't thing there's anything to worry about. That's what health anxiety is....the IRRATIONAL FEAR of a health issue. I had a seizure once, and there was a reason for it. I was detoxing off of alcohol. I drank heavy for a long time and seizures can occur when detoxing. That was 7 years ago (and I'm still sober) and have never had another seizure. I think with no family history and no underlying medical conditions, you're fine!

I had a 'false seizure' during  a horrible bout of a stomach virus when I got very dehydrated. I passed out and was seizing on the floor. Hubby called 911 and they started an IV.  That was years ago. I remember nothing about it and it has never happened again.
