New here, anxiety attack

My name is Aurora, I'm 31 and have been dealing with anxiety attacks since I was in my teens.

Long story short - I became pregnant in August of last year and although we were extremely excited on the outside, I was internally frightened as I have a HUGE fear of vomiting, and a history of anxiety. The pregnancy was planned and I was prepared to deal with whatever came my way. Needless to say, I went into a deep depression within weeks after finding out, I was crying constantly, couldn't eat, barely slept, I felt like I was falling apart. My OB/GYN suggested starting me on Zoloft as it was considered the "safest" during pregnancy. It took me a few weeks to start it at 25mgs and after about a month I bumped up to 50mg and once the morning sickness passed I felt great.

I had my daughter in March and only had a few days of "baby blues" but I remained on the Zoloft during breast feeding which I weaned around 6 months. I am still taking the Zoloft.

However, on Saturday I had a small anxiety attack out of nowhere (it had been 1+ years since I experienced it) and thought I got through it but it happened again on Sunday, then again on Monday. Monday was pretty bad, I get uncontrollable shakes when I have these attacks and I was shaking on/off all day Monday. Tuesday morning I woke up in a state of panic and was shaking all morning, I could barely eat breakfast although I was starving. I went to work and felt better. I went to my Primary Tuesday afternoon and she prescribed me Xanax to take as needed to control the attacks, and sent me for a bunch of blood work.

Wednesday I woke up again in a state of panic, could barely eat breakfast. Took a Xanax and it helped a little bit - by the time I got to work I felt a lot better and for the rest of the day I was 90% better!

However, again this morning I woke up in a state of panic. My whole body is/was shaking, I had to keep taking deep breaths or I felt like I would hyperventilate, I felt like I had to keep bouncing my leg, like I had to get out of bed and pace, cry, etc.

I have a script for Klonopin from before I was pregnant and I have like 3 pills left, so I took a 1/2 since I felt my attack was pretty severe. I took a 1/2 of a .50mg about 20 min ago and I still don't feel better.

I'm at a loss, I'm not sure what to do. It seems like mornings are the absolute worse.

It's a good place to be as it is all about offering and getting support.

If I understand correctly, you're still taking Zoloft? Your 'regular' dose, 50 mg?
What I would do is I'd go talk to my doc about it again, telling her panic is kind of escalating and discuss possible solutions with her. Since I've dealt with my depression and anxiety with help of my primary doc for a decade and later found a terrific psychiatrist, my advice would be to perhaps consider going to a psychiatrist? Their approach is very different from my experience and based on their knowledge and experience they can 'offer' different solutions.
Perhaps at this point trying a talk therapy or cbt would be enough for you.
Maybe you just need some rest and occcassional xanax or klonoping will get you through bad period.
Maybe it would be ok for you to increase your zoloft dose or change the med cus for some reason for some people meds seem to stop working after certain time.
Maybe you could get something in addition to zoloft, like wellbutrin for example...
So many maybes and perhapses and options but the real solution can only come from you, working with your doc and/or specialist. Usually in the long run combination of meds and therapy (like cbt) works best.
And yes, morning are usually worse with anxiety and depression.

Take small steps and don't be afraid. And once again: nice to have you as member!

Thank you, I appreciate the response.

I guess I just feel lost as to what to do at this point as I have not had a single episode of anxiety in over a year. I don't really know exactly what triggered it this time and why it won't go away.

I'm feeling a better now - I still have that "on edge" feeling like when you're about to get on a plane or publicly speak ... but am able to function at work. My Primary wanted me to take the Xanax for a few days regularly just to get my body to "snap" out of this, and I have an appt with my Psychiatrist on Jan 28 - which seems so far away.

I think part of my isse, that's making it worse, is that I'm fearing I'm going back to where I was last year Sept when I spiraled downwards. I do NOT want to get back to that point.

Temporary setbacks are very common as anxiety/depression tends to come and go, seems very cyclical.  Like Leo99's suggestions.  Updating your strategy to manage is a good idea.  Maybe your lifestyle at this time is triggering additional stress.  I know taking care of an infant and working would be stressful to me.  Don't be too hard on yourself.  Take care
