Weight Loss
« on: December 09, 2013, 10:17:24 AM »
Ok, I've been taking lexapro for 4 weeks now, and I'm losing weight. Has anyone else ever loss weight from taking these meds? I guess it's because I really don't have an appetite, I may eat sometimes only twice a day!!! Please let me know because now that's starting my anxiety to flare up because now I'm thinking something else is going on :traurig001:

When I started on Zoloft I was quite nauseous and had very little appetite.  I lost about 5lbs or so in the first 2 weeks and then my appetite came back around week 4 and I have not lost any more weight since.  Hang in there!

yes, i'm on paxil and virtually no appetite until evenings, have to make myself eat something in the morning..But anxiety in itself can cause no appetite..because anxiety effects your digestive system.

When I fist started an SSRI I had weight loss, a few pounds which lasted a couple of weeks. Once the medication kicked in and my side effects were gone I gained it back plus a couple more (which I needed :) ).

Hi Arlanza...  I agree with nancyga13, that anxiety itself can really put a damper on one's appetite.  Mine was indeed pretty poor.  Then, a little over two weeks ago, I was started on Celexa (which is the sister drug to Lexapro).  What little appetite I had, went right out the window.  I have lost 10-12 pounds since this all started.  My weight has now stabilized, and I have gained back a few pounds.  My sister gave me some good advise.  She told me to stay off the scale if it's going to increase my anxiety.  I sure wish you the best...  Chuck

I have just started on Celexa also and noticed my appetite decreased. It is often easier to drink calories than it is to eat them when you have no appetite, so you might try adding a protein shake once or twice a day and see if that helps. Use full fat milk and add some nut butter for extra calories.
