Lymph nodes in groin
« on: December 07, 2013, 04:39:49 PM »
I've been fearing lymphoma for the past month now. It started with a lymph node on the left side of my neck, but now I feel some nodes in my groin area near my hips The problem is, I have no idea if they're swollen or if I'm just imagining them to be because I've never felt them before. Can anyone else feel their groin-area lymph nodes? Mine feels like a small pea.

I can feel my groin lymph nodes. The one I'm concerned about is pretty long and not very wide...that's why I'm not sure if it's even a node or maybe a tendon or something. I have done way too much googling and anything you read about palpable lymph nodes makes it seem like it's automatically cancer. I hate the internet right now. It's great for some things but it's terrible for people with HA....

I have groin nodes I can feel.

Also thought Brooke there are lots of other things I can feel there too and I've asked my doctor and she said not nodes. Some things I feel are ligaments and muscle and also fatty deposits. When you are pregnant our bodies increase the fat deposits so maybe that's why I feel them more.

Anyway undertakerfreak I've had my groin nodes check by specialists and they all say they are just normal. pea sized.
A few doctors have said that they worry when they are the size of grapes. Even then not always cancer.

I have an OB appointment this Wednesday so I think I'm going to have my doctor feel them then. I'm so worried she is going to think it's something concerning.  :(

It's as normal to feel little peas in your groin as it is to have finger nails. I think doctor Google is freaking out too many people about perfectly normal parts of our bodies. A lot of members on this messageboard freak out completely if they feel a lymph node, because they think that's a red flag. It's not. These things are helping to keep you healthy.

I'm hoping that mine is not a lymph node because it is larger than pea sized. it's not really rounded, but it has a long shape feeling to it. It moves back and forth when I touch it too.

Mine too. Let me know if the doctor has any concerns about it.

I had this same issue.
I got frightened because my sister had Stage 4 Non Hodgkins and the swollen groin lymph node is what started it all off with.
I went to my doctor yesterday (the day after I found it) and she said she could feel what I was talking about but that it was rather small. A cm or less.
I am still kind of freaking out a bit.
She asked if I was having other symptoms associated with NHL and I stated no and that the only reason I found this was because of the fact that I must wear a compression garment on my left leg and for some reason felt this little lump. It may have been there for some time for all I know.
I do know also that I have bursitis in my hips and trigger points from fibromyalgia. I asked her point blank if it was cancer and her reply was no.
I have to go with this answer.
I have had other lymph nodes swell and I get concerned about them ( and rightly so with my family history) but they eventually go down. I pray this one does as well.
I know that lymph nodes swell when there are inflammation going on in the body or it is trying to help with your body combating something that you are not even aware of that you are trying to combat.

I can't even tell if everything I'm feeling are lymph nodes or not. I'm worried that they are because they are in my groin, and of course any time you google about lumps in groin, everything is about lymph nodes and there is nothing about tendons, fatty deposits, etc...I have been rubbing the area a lot lately so I don't know if I have irritated them and made them larger...

I was told by my doctor that you should not touch the area where the swelling is taking place. (I understand it is a hard thing to do)
SHe stated that perhaps some warm compresses or heating pads and make sure that you are drinking water to flush things through.

I have bursitis in my hips and I have had fibromyalgia for 23 years. I also have a DVT on the left leg (the side where the swollen lymph node is in the groin area). Hence the reason I must wear a compression stocking (it helps with the circulation).

I have read that lymph nodes can fill up with scar tissue and it can feel like it is swollen. I know that I scar quickly and in different places. I have scar tissue in the abdominal area due to blood thinners being injected into that area when I was on blood thinners. I have scar tissue from the dentist doing Novocaine shots into the gum line last year when doing a crown.

I also have palpable lymph nodes in my groin, on both sides. Some are round like a pea, some narrow and long.  MRI showed them as absolutely nothing to worry about.  :winking0008:

I worry because it feels like I have so many. And a lot feel larger than peas. I have been doing a LOT of rubbing on the area so I don't know if that made them bigger or what. I'm not even sure if they are all lymph nodes. is it true that groin lymph nodes can be a little larger and still considered normal?

Yes it is natural that some node can be larger in some people than in others.
