Why are so many therapists out of network?
« on: December 06, 2013, 10:17:41 AM »
The two therapy centers that my psychiatrist referred me to don't take insurance, and are really very expensive. Why are so many therapists not taking insurance and considered "out-of-network"? How do people ever get the help they need?

Unfortunately, health insurance companies have been reimbursing therapists at discounted rates, much less than what they can possibly get an as out of network provider so a lot of therapists are trying to make a living by not being limited by the low rates provided by insurance companies. Most don't make a heck of a lot with the skills and training they have acquired.  In California, a high cost state, they average about 52k a year before taxes.
