So in the last 2 months i had two throat aches, one of which was a tonsillitis. The first throat ache was not all that awful and went away on its own within a few days but the second one, which according to the doctors was tonsillitis was pretty bad, i could bearly swallow for a few days. Anyhow all of this wouldn't concern me all that much if it wasn't for the fact that only one of my tonsils is swollen. And it's been swollen since august this year, i know this because at the time i went to the GP for some allergy issues, he didn't seem overly concerned about it and since it caused no discomfort neither did i. Recently it has, however been causing me troubles and i'm a nervous reck. The bulk of tonsillitis resolved a few weeks ago but i still feel discomfort on the right side when swallowing and that tonsil is still enlarged. GP did a CBC which came back normal, it didn't really convince me because, as i'm sure we all know CBC's do not necessarily pick up lymphoma, so one night i went to the ER. The doctor there told me the tissue on the tonsilis looks idenctical and therefore in the worst case scenario its some kind of chronic infection, didn't even mention lymphoma but because i was concerned he gave me a refferal to the specialist. I went to one specialist the very next day, he basically reiterated what the guy in the ER said. About a week after that i had a bout of stomach virus, which freaked me out that my immunity is compromised so i called back asking for a second opinion. Manage to get it as well, the second doctor repeated what all the doctors before had said, said i had two swollen lymph nodes on each side of roughly 0.5cm. This was 3 weeks ago, i still feel the discomfort on the right side when swallowing and today i woke up with this god damn neck stiffness like when you are about to get fever, however my temp is measuring between 36.3 and 36.6 C. Tonsil still didn't reduce in size, i dont dare to poke around my neck in search of lymph nodes, especially on the right side, for the fear of what i might find potentially. Anyhow, it's pretty scary, i am scared i might have lymphoma in particular, the fact that every single article on googles equates unilateral tonsillar enlargment to potential malignancy doesnt help either. The specialists i've seen have both told me that they do not find it necessary to remove my tonsils and didn't even want to perform any further investigation, like say the scan of the neck for the lymph nodes or some such thing. I don't dare to call again, even with the GP, cos i am pretty certain that they are fed up with me and my suspicions of lymphoma, i'll admit im slightly ashamed myself. Would quite appreciate some advice.
