DVT or crazy?
« on: December 04, 2013, 11:12:50 PM »
I'm 21 and there is a predisposition that runs in my family to get dvt. I don't know if I have inherited it, but my parents never felt like it was a big enough deal to get me tested. I've had one asunt die from it and an uncle who almost did.

I'm usually relatively active; I'm on the track team. But this past week we have been off and I've been sitting around the whole time. Lately I've been feeling cramps behind my knees. Rt his could be anything, but I have also been having chest pains accompanied by pas in in my upper left back when I breathe in sometimes.

I talked to my mom about getting tested, but how do I know I'm not going to drop dead in the meantime? I guess I just need some reassurance.

Anyone can keel over at any time, but the chances are extremely remote at your age.

How do they test for this?  I've never heard of a test for a 'predisposition' to DVT.

My GP checked me for one when I went in with horrible leg pain.

He told me it presents itself typically with a swollen ankle compared to the other leg and a red blotch on the skin.

My ankles were so skinny he could see the bones so he said not possible.
