Question about platelets, cirrhosis and bleeding gums
« on: December 03, 2013, 06:27:53 AM »
I am far too scared to google this but can anyone tell me what the cause of bleeding gums, easy bruising etc is in Cirrhosis? I had bloodwork done about a month ago and all checked out normal, inclusing the platelet count. Would this be the case if I was easily bleeding/ bruising with cirrhosis. I only ask becuase I woke up this morning with my gum swollen and bleeding around one tooth. It sounds silly but can someone help me?

I would just make an appointment with the dentist and discuss your concerns with him/her.
It may just be an irritated gum.

Are you eating healthy? Because taking some extra vitamins can make a huge difference.

I don't know about the weather where you live, but my skin bruises much easier when it's cold outside and warm end (too) dry inside. It makes your veins also softer, and that means you will bruise easily.

Just as an update, went to my fantastic doctor who understands I have HA (even said if you ever feel concerned you can come to me). He asked me about my previous drinking habits and his reaction when I told him that the amount I specified was wine over the course of 8 years or so (on and off) and not spirits (over 30 years) was to burst out laughing (in the best possible way). He did an exam (again) and found nothing and then went through my blood test results saying that in my case Serum Albumin was high and in almost all cases of Cirrhosis it is low.

I guess I really really am totally nuts. Nuts with poor gums, crappy winter skin and exhaustion. I am now off to have the best meal money can buy with the woman I love and relax.
